@Applyingfor2017 Lol, still not letting my hopes go up because of that possibility
Is there a way to know who is in the top tier? And how many people from the top tier get in you think (50%? 90%?)?
Is that all he said in the email? Would u mind sharing the email? You can ofc omit ur name w a line or smth. Thanks!
That is all he said in the email. Also, exactly what does top tier mean? Did some people get an email saying they were in the top tier of remaining applicants?
I’ve been following this thread for a while but finally bit the bullet and made an account. HS junior here, haven’t received any notification. I was wondering if anyone else here put CT labs as their first/second choices?
Hi, no I didn’t. I just assumed others did based off of my interpretation of their comment.
Also, from what I’ve read on their website, the committee reviews all applications and determines a pool of applications called the “top tier”. Then, I’m assuming a portal of applications encompassing the top tier becomes available to mentors. After that, once a mentor picks a student from the list, I’m guessing that’s what is determining the order of acceptances which is getting sent out. Once the PI says yes you’re in. So at this point, only top tier apps are considered.
@Porcupine123 That makes sense based on the website. I would assume that the applicants in the previous year who the got the email saying they were still being considered for a slot at the end of March were probably part of the “top tier.”
@Astraea1 do you know if those applicants received the email that they were still being considered around the same time rejections were sent out? And to answer your previous question, I’m also a HS junior who put CT as their first and second labs.
@yaminipant It seemed like a bunch of rejections had come out when the student received the email about still being considered. Also, it seems like CT labs generally release decisions concurrently with or later than Maine labs, or at least that’s the impression I’ve gotten
@Astraea1 oh okay, that’s helpful, thanks! Do you know if CT labs have already released some decisions yet? I know some people on this thread have (obviously) been accepted but I don’t remember if they are going to CT or Maine.
@yaminipant I believe they get sent out around the same time, but we probably haven’t seen anyone on this thread get an acceptance from the CT lab because they take significantly less students than Maine. Only around 11 I think.
@yaminipant @Porcupine123 I haven’t seen any CT acceptances yet…
I got accepted!
@Esguito Wow !!! Congratulations !!! when did you receive the decision???
Which lab did you get accepted to? @Esguito
@Esguito did u find out today?
I received a notification that I was the first on the waitlist and an hour later, I received the offer. I got accepted into Nadia Rosenthal’s lab!
@Esguito Congrats!!
@Esguito that’s awesome! Never doubt!
