Jan Essay prompt - Joining groups

For those of you who had the prompt about people joining groups, was it phrased as "is there value in joining groups of people with whom one has SOMETHING in common??" or "NOTHING in common?" I am really scared I read it wrong.

something in common... i got that one. :) don worry

^Yay! I just hope/pray/wish you're right! (or else we're screeewed!)

I second that!

wow... who was the guy who said that the essay prompt was joining NOTHING in common? I hope that guy/gal's the only one who read it wrong, since the consensus seems that the essay was SOMETHING in common, rather than NOTHING in common (which IMO, doesn't make any sense at all).

Btw, our essay prompt was really BAD. Others had conventional prompts... why did we had the blessing to be the guinea pigs and get this almost-experimenta-essay-prompt? Gaaah...

one topic has missed on the collegeboard.com

the prompt is out on collegeboard.

Since we live in a global society, surely we should view ourselves as citizens of the whole world. But instead, people choose to identify and associate with smaller and more familiar groups. People think of themselves as belonging to families, nations, cultures, and generations—or as belonging to smaller groups whose members share ideas, views, or common experiences. All of these kinds of groups may offer people a feeling of security but also prevent them from learning or experiencing anything new.

Assignment:
Is there any value for people to belong only to a group or groups with which they have something in common? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

So the essay prompt is indeed on groups of people with SOMETHING in COMMON. Phew!!!

Yes! But still my essay sucked. LOL.

^Thank goodness :). And yeah, the essay prompt s*cked hard

hah! we had 18 minutes to do the whole thing... and i was trying to tell the examiners that. Bt they wouldn't talk until the first break!! And yes i had a lamely finished undeveloped essay... 4 would be god-sent! Alll this for someone who tops composition exams in school... ;((

oh gosh, that's such a terrible prompt.. :x
I think I would be fried if I got that.

I agree...the prompt is not the usual collegeboard style. I managed to write 2 full pages, but it definitely wasn't well done...anyways, mark will be out in 2 and 1/2 days :S

^and that on valentine's day... how romantic can that get?

You get to spend Valentine's Day with your SAT score, what more do you want? ;)

For me it will be more of a day tht horror movies are made off.

CB's gift to the general populace during Valentine's: a 4 digit number.

What scores did the guys who had this essay get? I got a stupid 10/12... Grrr... I filled about 1.8~9 pages, and I still got only a 10..

I got a 7. I wrote 1.5 pages.

I got 11 again...but my CR score is still low, arrrrgh!!!

Writing really messed up my scores
