January 2010 Critical Reading

@transferstudent- The question was asking about the primary purpose, so could the answer choice have been something like understanding the complexity let to discoveries in the physical sciences?
Haha. But I still don’t recall much of the question/answer choices.

wasn’t it COMPUNCTION, not rancor?
they should have felt guilt and remorse for what they did, not hatred.

The compunction/rancor thing did not have to do with the group’s feelings, rather what resulted. Which is rancor for them, not compunction.

Scientist CR:
One of the answers was “To expand on preceding generalizations.”

What? I think I put an answer with something about the opening paragraph. Is that wrong? Explanation?

This was my take on it: in the paragraph immediately preceding the research account, the geneticist was introduced and she first mentions the puzzle analogy (a generalization). Then she explains it in terms of one of her experiments (expanding on the generalization).

does anyone know what the question was for the
passage that was about the tunisian tourist?

and the answer choices?

thanks!

Does anyone remember the exact question about the purpose of the example of the geneticist?

Does anyone know the other answers to the scientist passage?

Particularly the answer that says “to describe a typical scientist’s thought process” or something…what was the question to that?

Also, what was the author saying about scientific research??

Wasn’t one of the answers for the research scientist passage “it provided a CLUE for…” and not “te discovery was a solution to the puzzle” as it says on the compiled list?

^yeah 10 char

what would a -3 on this curve be? No 800 for sure right?

probably like a 780/790.

if you guessed and you guessed wrong: 760-770

what were the exploit and the extinction sentences???

does anyone remember any of the other choices for the cod fish i m wondering if i got it right

@Billsrage55

the sentence for exploit was like:
(name), a famous drummer, was a _____ in his area of expertise because he ______(exploited) the melodic aspects of drumming rather than the rhythmic

or that wasn’t word for word, but that was the basic idea…

does you happen to remember what the question was for the
passage that was about the tunisian tourist?
the answer was the “appearance” and apparently it was about the quote “i am not only strange, but im a stranger” but i dont remember the question…
and the answer choices?

thanks!

“Wasn’t one of the answers for the research scientist passage “it provided a CLUE for…” and not “te discovery was a solution to the puzzle” as it says on the compiled list?”

that’s what i thought. the passage made it pretty explicit later on that the thing they did with the cell wasn’t all that significant

also does anyone remember the sentence where altruistic was the answer

Though her deeds had nothing but good consequences, she did it out of self interest and thus her actions cannot be considered altruistic.
something like that.

thanks canbaniswim, do u possibly remember the other choices.
