Hey,

I'm going down to Wash U this weekend. I'll be there friday all day and will either stay both thurs and fri or just fri night. Is there any chance anyone else is going to visit? If so, it would be so awesome to meet and talk, visit classes together, go out, etc.

If happen to be planning a trip (or know any other JProg admit planning a trip) for this weekend PLEASE email me kels323@gmail.com. Actually, it would be great for any one considering JProg to email me. I am so confused right now (see next post) and would love to hear what other ppl are thinking!

Thanks

So, i got waitlisted at Notre Dame today. I was really banking on getting in to solve my college problems.

Here's the thing: i love WashU! Going there was going to be a no-brainer if i got in. THis january program thing puts everything into a whole new light. Academically, socially this is not what i was planning or, in truth, what i want. I love the school so much, though and not only do i think it has the best to offer me academically, but i think i would fit in well personality-wise there. i've gotten in at a lot of other great schools (right now my second choice is the UMich honors program) but none of these schools excite me. i know this is my own fault b/c i've focused so much on WashU and ND. I just can't get washu out of my head.

If i were to go to wash U (wich is about a 50/50 chance right now) i would stay home for a semester, load up on classes at a college here (i live in the suburbs of Chicago; UIC is a pretty decent option for a semester) so that i can max out on AP credits and transfer credits so that i can be up to speed with other bio majors/pre med candidates. i would most likely get a job and maybe even help out w/my high school's xc team. honestly, this sounds like the most depressing way to spend a semester. as cool as it would be to go abroad and have fun, my priority is getting in a few quality courses (art history or philosophy in LOndon, italy, or france dont really count). here's another question: if i was to do this, what do i do socially for a semester? i wouldn't be living in dorms (good think i like my family and have a bedroom about five times the size of any dorms my friends would be in) and i wouldn't want to form too many relationships b/c they would only last a few months...so what would i do socially during that time? also, i kind of don't think that i would take summer school (my admit didn't say i'm required to) b/c i want to spend as much time as possible w/ my friends this summer. its gonna be hard enough separating from them in august, so i can't imagine losing 5 weeks in the summer that i could be spending with them.

ok, so this is a lot of me just rambling. here's what i would like to know: are you guys positive about doing January Program? if so, what helped you to make this decision? if not, what kinds of things are you thinking? i would love to get some emails from you when you get the chance with as much detail about what is going through your head and your decision making process as possible. i know that this is a lot to ask but IT WOULD MEAN SO SO SO MUCH TO ME!

justwondering:

i am definatley not a premed. i am the farthest thing you would find from a math and science person so sorry, i'm unable to answer your questions. my suggestion would be to call the school and ask to speak to an advisor for how to deal with all the academic aspects of a being a pre-med january student and then email your peer advisor for advice and info on the social stuff.

the email reply was not exactly encouraging, she said that wash u does not encourage study aboard the fall semester that people have done it but had trouble with housing and transfering credits. If i dont do an aboard program i will prolly just take some courses offered locally, so i dont no

yeah, i'm thinking the same thing. as fun as it would be to go abroad, it really wouldn't be worth it if credits weren't transferable or applicable to my major.

I talked to Harriet and she was saying that its tough and they don't reccomend it, but when I asked her specifically, she said that you can find out if the credits transfer beforehand. I think they just discourage you because they want you to pay for the fall program
