Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what level of Japanese is on the NYU Language Placement Exam? Would it be similar to the SAT II's or AP test - which I passed in the top 10 percentile, or test higher level grammar and kanji and reading as well? I'm hoping to pass into an advanced or post-advanced class and would like to know if I should stick with reviewing what I've already learned to place into those classes. Also, if you could let me know how the test is divided I'd really appreciate it. Like, if there is a Kanji writing section, or essay portion or just recognition and multiple choice, etc etc.

Genrally from what i know about placement tests is that tey test your knowledge in speaking, reading, and writing. So i would review what you know and what you feel confident with.

I am told they are very basic and similar to SAT subject tests. My D took placement test for Hindi language at NYU and she had dropped Hindi in 8th Grade. She said it was very simple and easy. But she did brush up her skills with middle school level basic grammar and synonyms and antonyms and proverbs and paragraph writing for 10 days as she had not used the script for reading and writing for over 5 years. But it is her mother tongue and so spoken and reading part was really not a challenge.
