Recently , my parents and I have begun to argue as to whether or not they can afford to send me to top schools like Johns Hopkins. Our EFC is $6,500 and i know that JHU will cover the rest. But what percentage of the rest will be gift aid, work study, and loan.

Each financial aid case is reviewed on a case-by-case, individual basis. There is no set distribution of funds for grants, work study, and loan that sets financial aid policy for all applicants. Every case will be different and based on the formulas of the FAFSA and CSS profile forms. The most crucial detail is meeting all deadlines!!!

I suggest reading this website (http://www.jhu.edu/finaid/prosp_stud_faq.html) and also using our Financial Aid calculator (http://www.jhu.edu/finaid/estimator.html). Finally, if you or your parents have specific questions, then you should contact the Office of Student Financial Services and speak with one of the Financial Aid counselors.
