JHU vs. Northwestern

Hello. I'm looking to study chemistry with either mathematics, physics, or classics on the side. I do not wish to go to med school; grad school would be cool with me. So, I know the academics at both schools are great. At this point, it really just comes down to where I'd have a social life and a good time. Any input?

My suggestion is to visit both campuses.

In addition, definitely look at the practical aspects like the cost of travel and time to and from the campus to home. Here are the dichotomies I would note:

Bigger vs. smaller (NW = 6,100 vs. JHU = 4,400)
Suburban vs. City (Evanston vs. Baltimore)
Midwest vs. East Coast

Both schools are going to prepare you well so I suggest visiting - once you set foot on both of the campuses you’ll know which is best for you.

GL

Don’t think of NU as suburban because chicagoo is only a short ride away and is by far a better city than Baltimore. Look to see were you can get the most/best undergrad research experiences because that will really help you get into grad school, as well as a high gpa of course.

nu - good combination of academics, athletics, and great city – if you don’t mind the winter.

jhu. You get two cities for the price of one. DC is just a “short ride away” too.
Also, JHU consistently encourages students to research, leading to nearly 80%+ of the student body participating in some research project of their own during undergrad at JHU.

Also, JHU has less of a greek life emphasis than NU, which has many cliques and activities dominated around it’s 40% encompassing Greek Life system.

At the undergrad level, the programs at both of these schools are relatively the same. However, JHU affords you a smaller student body. Also, JHU is constantly getting better and better each year!!!

Make sure to visit both schools. They are both phenomenal.

Social lives?

I’ve heard that northwestern feels separated by north campus and south campus and have seen that mostly the minorities stick together and form friends within their ethnic groups.

Thanks, guys!
