I would not be surprised if Jimmy passes away very soon. What an amazing woman she was, and what a wonderful, giving family they have been. They have spent their lives showing love and compassion & serving others.

Such a caring and humble couple. What excellent retirement role models they were to all :purple_heart:

Yes, he will not linger very long now, I predict.

Sadly, I agree

Warm thoughts to their daughter, Amy.

And their 3 sons.

Yes…and the sons as well. I guess I always forget them…Amy was the White House child.

“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, said. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

IIRC she is 15 yrs younger than the youngest of her 3 brothers, and 20 years younger than the oldest.

I hope this sweet story is true:

Very sweet story, and I think partially true. The rumble seat part…no.

“Edgar and Allie Smith were neighbors of the Carters, and in the summer of 1927, Lillian helped deliver their first child, Eleanor Rosalynn. Jimmy, then a 3-year-old, and newborn Rosalynn met just a couple days later for the first time. Later, Rosalynn became a close childhood friend of Ruth Carter, Jimmy’s younger sister.”

Regardless, they had a wonderful and long life together that everyone should celebrate.

Sweet story. Somehow it has me thinking of “It’s a Wonderful Life” romance.

Very moving memorial service for Rosalynn. What a wonderful, understated, incredible woman. And what a wonderfully dignified event. Nice to see that again in our presidential events.

My husband commented that all the living first ladies attended the funeral. My only response was “I would totally expect them to. I’d be very disappointed in them otherwise.”

News here (local for this service and funeral) had a fair amount about the funeral prep. Apparently Rosalynn had a lot of input into her funeral planning (music, speakers, etc) and apparently chose to be gracious and invite Melania. Have to assume she planned her funeral before the dementia was too severe.

I was pleased to see Melanie went. It was the right thing to do.

Also here, despite the very thorough coverage (articles, photos, etc) in many sections of the paper the AJC chose (appropriately IMO) to not include any of the unflattering photos of Jimmy Carter from the front. They had the endearing picture of Chip kissing him on the head and Amy holding his hand, but no distressing photos of the former president looking so fragile with his mouth wide open (as People magazine/website) chose to.
