JMU Dingledine Bluestone Scholarship

Has anyone had some experience with the Dingledine Bluestone Scholarship at James Madison University? I haven’t been able to find too much information about it, and I was wondering what they are looking for specifically in applicants and if anyone has ever been interviewed or gotten the scholarship. Thanks a ton!

My best friend is a JMU Dingledine-Bluestone scholar for the Class of 2024. Here’s what she has to say:

“Focus on your scholarship application essays because the judges will use that to formulate the majority of your interview. Write about something you feel comfortable talking about or something you’re passionate about because it will translate into a successful interview later on.

If you are invited to the interview weekend on campus, just be yourself! The interview will be a quick 30-minute session in staggering time slots. You’ll be placed in a room with 3 other judges. They will be some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet so the interview will feel more like a conversation!

As for interview tips, show the judges what you can contribute to the JMU community. Don’t hesitate to “brag” about yourself (in moderation, of course!) because they’re looking for a!energetic and dedicated candidates who they know will be devoted to the betterment of the community.

Lastly, but certainly not least, take some time to thank the staff and judges afterwards because they are SO welcoming and really put a lot of effort into the whole process.

Good luck, and go Dukes!”

Thank you so much!!
