Job experience vs leadership in clubs

For law school, there’s a lot of discussion on extracurriculars and getting leadership roles within, but I was wondering how those weighed in comparison to jobs like being a teaching or research assistant. Is it more worth it getting jobs or being president of a club ?

Law schools won’t care about jobs before graduation. Some care about work experience after graduation. Employers tend to like former employment more than being president of a club, unless it’s a club you can tell good stories about and you have work experience anyways.

so are you saying, skip the internship and be active in a club instead because its not that worth?

Do what you feel you can excel at, show your passion etc. There is no magic formula for getting into law school so do what interests and excites you. That said, if you have an opportunity to get any experience working at a law firm or in some legal-related field over a summer that won’t hurt.

To be clear, there is a magic formula for getting into law school. It’s GPA + LSAT (or GRE, for a couple schools). I always recommend experience interning at a law firm before going to law school. Law practice in reality and what people think of law practice often differ greatly. Better to find out on this side of $200k in debt.

“To be clear, there is a magic formula for getting into law school.
