Job Placement Rate of Kelley

I was bored today, and I was reading about really how much college has become and for some people its not worth the investment to go there... then I read the college debt thread here on the forum. I digged up an old post I made that shows you how competitive the job market is... and really 100k debt to attend a slightly better school is not worth it over your in-state flagship school:

*I don't want to beat over the bush, but it seems like more then ever, in today's landscape its all about who you know combined with your merits, in order to land a position.

Now, I was lucky enough to go through my university's career center and land an internship this summer, but after looking at these statistics i definately would have tried to network more.

It seems like a lot of my personal friends at kelley, landed internships via their parents / parents network. Some through social network.

<a href="https://ucso.indiana.edu/cgi-bin/ReportCenter/annual_reports/current.pdf%5B/url%5D">https://ucso.indiana.edu/cgi-bin/ReportCenter/annual_reports/current.pdf</a></p>

Interesting Statistics:

Of the 1,102 Kelley seniors who utilized the UCSO, 803 were actively seeking full-time employment or graduate school at three months post graduation.

Of those, 79% reported a full-time job or graduate school acceptance with 81% of graduating Kelley seniors reporting data to the UCSO.

Now ok, taking those stastics into effect, look at the UCSO statistics for companies who recruited on campus:

Interviews: 6,835
Job Positions: 288

Thats around 30 interviews for one position.

Internships: 3500
Positions: 139

Similar statistics.

Now, of course almost all the kelley students did multiple interviews, I believe I did around 12.

Still, 288 positions for the whole class! And the average Kelley student is pretty smart already. So imagine how competitive it is.

*Still mystifies me, where do all the other people get jobs... only one logical conclusion, through their connections. *

And FYI, to those entering college, they love to look at your EC's, so GET INVOLVED early. Once you get into an interview, your GPA is completely moot. That what "preferencing" is for and getting an interview slot.

So Network and ECS.

In a Nutshell: 1300 people in kelley, 288 jobs / 139 internships...

Basic Math States: Only 1 out of 5 will get a job and 1 out 10 will get an internship directly through the UCSO interviewing process. Its a pretty harsh world out there. I can only imagine how hard it can be for people not in kelley...

damitssam,

I noticed similar reports to your stats of 79% and 81%. If we assume that 90% of the 79% students got jobs which means 72% of the 81% (around 60% of total) students reporting got jobs. I would guess that the 19% not reporting may have a lower % of job offering. If I assume 8% of them got job, the total students getting a job is about 60% + 8% ~ 70%. I am curious about the validity though. Some said that the 19% might be from foreign students. Hence, they did not report. But, the maximum would be 79% (60%+19%).

Some links in post #24 of the following link showed that Kelley had been ranked “A” in job placement. I know that UND has a 100% job placement rate. How would Kelley be ranked as “A” with a less than 80% job placement rate? Are they actually doing better than 80%? I doubt that too.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/indiana-university-bloomington/1054251-why-does-kelley-get-no-respect-2.html</a></p>

The 288 job positions reflect the on-campus recruits. I certainly hope that other Kelley students can find jobs from firms not recruiting on campus. But, I am worried very much about my S2 with a job prospect of ~70%.

^^Where did you get the 100% placement rate for UND? In the latest Businessweek rankings, they said only three schools had 100% job placement (UT-Austin, Penn State, Richmond).

[Live Chat: 2011 Undergraduate B-School Ranking - BusinessWeek](<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?)

"park11: Which schools had the best job placement and/or placement into an MBA program?

LouisBW: Three schools had 100 percent job placement at three months post-graduation: Richmond, Texas, and Penn State. Hard to top 100 percent."

BTW, the BEPP department claims that 95% of seniors have full time offers before winter break. With some of the highest salaries in Kelley.

I do not have the published figures. I was talking with a professor there. I believe that the numbers would be very close. Apparently, UND also tightly controls their business school’s enrollment.

Kelley earned a “A” in placement. I was hoping someone can show that “A” mean 90% or better. :(
