Job prospects for Chem majors

So I'm wondering what the job prospects are for Chem majors post-undergrad and then post-graduate. I realized post undergrad the jobs are much simpler and you're more of an assistant. The thing is I LOVE chemistry and it is something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life. I'm not really sure if I want to go down the doctor or engineering path, so I'm looking for the other options.

Job prospects are pretty grim right now. New bachelor’s-level chemists are facing about 14% unemployment (defined as looking for a job but not getting one), and new PhD chemists 9%. Both of these are higher than the national average for unemployment. It’s impossible to say what percentage of new chem graduates are getting jobs in the field, because a lot of new grads are taking jobs outside of chemistry or for whatever reason have quit looking. So 14% unemployment isn’t the same thing as 86% employment.

My advice would be to consider a double major with something more widely marketable, or if you’re really that passionate about chemistry, go ahead and major in it, just know that there might be a rough road getting started after college. Then network, network, network during college. Go to conferences if you can just for the experience and to meet people. Your likelihood of finding a job goes up exponentially the more people you know in the field and the more people who know you.
