Job Prospects for CS/CE

So i have a few questions regarding CS and CE (or something similar like ECE)

What kind of courses would a CS/CE major be taking (CS/CE meaning what would a CS take and what would a CE take)

In general what kind of jobs might a CS/CE major be looking into upon graduation

How are job prospects at Cornell? What jobs and for what companies would Cornell CS/CE students typically take after graduation (after undergrad or after grad school)?

Thanks

the first question can be found through online research.

i’d like to know the answers to the second and third, though! bump.

this is going on the assumption that cs = computer science and ce = chem eng?

CS: computer programmer? you can do anything really, in any company that requires tech. CE: go work in a lab?

i think there’s a list out there for what type of jobs cornell grads get. i know that as an AEM major, we get a list at the end of the year (well, i have before, but i didn’t get one last year…) for what the new grads are going to do.

Be nice, one day you will be reporting to him.

^^ what a jerk (not monydad, copyxmkiii)

I’m a senior in ECE and took a fair amount of CS classes and is going through recruiting for CS positions.

The CS and ECE curriculum has gone through a big change since I started. So I’m not too familiar whats required and whats not anymore. So the best is to look it up online. For CS, required ones that will probably never change is data structures, operating systems, algorithms etc coupled with electives that popular ones being graphics, game design etc. For ECE, the classes are mostly geared towards communication, computer engineering, microelectronics etc.

The overlap between CS and ECE in terms of courses are the computer hardware classes, communication, computer vision etc. But ECE will have more of a hardware/math focus while CS will probably contain programming assignments.

All the big CS companies (Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, Qualcomm, IBM, Cisco etc) recruits on campus. Also the IT positions in government (NASA, NSA etc) and other companies (conglomerate, banks/investment firms, defense companies) are recruited. There also various start ups but the process is less formal (they don’t come directly to campus but reach out to Cornell students).

For ECE, it is a difficult to find a job right now. It used to be everyone wanting to get into Intel/AMD or semiconductor firm but most of them has been hit hard by the recession. So most ECE majors are actually looking into the CS jobs.
