Jobs heavy on traveling

Looking at deciding a major, I only really know that I wanna be one of those people at the airport. Dressed up, bluetooth in, only a carry-on, flying from place to place for work. How do I get there? What do I major in? What kind of job is this?

Work for a hotel company in marketing.

You may think now that you want to do that, but give it some time. I work forty hours a week while attending school and dont get to spend as much time with people I care about as I would like. I have to imagine that constant travelling would put a strain on all your relationships

People who travel extensively for work do get paid more, on the other hand. You could retire early and do something that you actually like

People who travel extensively for work do NOT necessarily get paid more. While they have lower expenses, the toll extensive travel takes on individuals can be tough.

If you want travel, consulting is probably the industry for you. Standard practice is Mon-Thu on client site and Fri in your home office. That said, I can say from experience that living out of a suitcase is not all that glamorous … you don’t get to see new places. You actually just see new airports, hotels and office buildings, and I can tell you right now that an office building in LA is pretty similar to an office building in NY.

alternatively you could look at things like the State Department, if you want longer term traveling

You can also travel if you do sales. Most of the technical salespeople I deal with are reps for about half the country, so they travel pretty often. I agree with chrisw for the most part about travel not actually being that sexy, though. My dad had a job where he was traveling at least half the month, often to non-sexy destinations (at least, I don’t think the USSR was a popular place to be as an American in the 80s), and it definitely took a toll on his health.
