Jobs in energy for a ChemE?

So I just graduated in May with a BS in ChemE at Cornell. Going back for my Masters in the fall. My academic interests have mostly been in renewable energy systems, green technology especially stuff like hybrid vehicles, and sustainable development. I'm not interested in the jobs in industry in biotech, pharma, chemicals, oil, or consumer products that most of my peers in my major have gone into... And most recruiters that look for ChemEs at my school are hiring for these industry jobs, so I've pretty much just been looking for jobs on my own to no avail.

I'm not really sure what is out there for someone with my interests. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. What kind of jobs/companies should I be looking for? Where are they located and how can I make myself competitive for these positions? I can see myself in a technical role, maybe as some sort of professional consultant for sustainable energy matters, but I'm not too sure how to get there.

I would appreciate any advice.

Look for companies that do stuff that you are interested in via Google. Then click on their HR/careers/jobs/whatever link on their site and browse their listing of jobs. See what jobs are available that interest you and what their requirements are.

I think that you are going to find a good number of small startups involved in this. Don’t expect the best pay or job security in the world if you decide to proceed down that path.
