<p>does anyone know if in the past couple years a freshman has won this award. Probably 7 to 9 years ago a kid from my school went to Harvard and as a freshman won. It was the first time in Harvard history that a freshman won. Just wondering if that has happened again...</p>

<p>I don't know what you are talking about, but there is a John Harvard Scholars for students who are in the top 5% of their class based on the previous year's academic GPA. The next 5% are designated Harvard College Scholars.</p>

<p>You are confused, texas14. Xjayz accurately describes the current procedure for awarding John Harvard and Harvard College “Scholarships.” The closest award to what you describe is the Sophia Freund Prize, which is given at graduation to the summa graduate with the highest GPA.</p>
