Did anyone else get this?
To how many people do they award this? (anyone know.. alumns)?
Does it completely cover loans in order to meet fin. need?

I wonder how many "Dean's Scholars" there are? My S got a likely letter referencing a Dean's Scholar program...I forget the two people's names that came in front of "Dean's Scholar"...his wasn't money, though...it was an honors program...Cornell hasn't sent him anything else about it since the likely letter...

I got it; there are about 60ish I think dean's scholars per year. Basically, it converts loans into grants and provides a $600/yr book award.

I just got this today. Too bad I'm not eligible for anything.

It's about 60ish a year like tower said. It means nothing except free money and something you can put on your CV.

wow kewl!! free money is always welcome!.. now I think that Cornell is giving me the best fin. aid. .. I'll have to wait for my fin aid award first though.
So they just select some "good candidates" who have fin. need to offer this scholarship to?
ohh and shizz..
what is CV?

"Receiving this honor places students in a select, exceptional group of past and present student engineers ....."

You will be given a scholarship if you have demonstrated financial need.

Even though Cornell doesn't give Merit Scholarships, this is the closest they get.
Every McMullin Deans Scholar receives a "Book Allowance Award" for four years. (This year it's $300/ semester)
Also there are special events the McMullin Scholars are invited to.
A welcome reception with the Dean of the Engineering College and Faculty at the start of the Semester, for example.

Heres a quote from the Web Page that describes it.
[quote]
McMullen Deans Scholarship
The John McMullen Deans Scholarship is the most prestigious award in the College of Engineering. It recognizes undergraduate students with outstanding achievements inside and outside of the classroom and indicates our confidence that you have an exceptionally bright future at Cornell and in engineering.

wow.. I feel special , thank you. No wonder Cornell has been calling me so often now. =)

CV = cirriculum vitae = resume

and what it does, is if you have up to 4k in cornell loans, it replaces it with grant...otherwise you get 600$ in book money per year. (is a Dean's scholar)

HAHAHAHAHHAHAH in my four years here I've only gotten an invitation to two things. One was a reception at the beggining of freshman year and one was an invitation to some conference on combustions or something equally random like that.

The dean's scholar thing is basically a gimmick to get strong students to matriculate. It's not a bad gimmick because they give you money for it and you get to meet a lot of classmates.
