As far as I know, no. Hopkins, unless you applied to be BME, cares little about the major you applied with (hence why it is so easy to switch majors once accepted)
BME because of rankings?
They do direct admit for BME – if you don’t put BME as your major in the application it’s very unlikely you’d be able to get into BME at all, which is why that’s the exception. They’ve got a cap on the major, so it’s more competitive, but many people have been accepted to Hopkins even if rejected from BME
When we toured 18 months ago, the admissions dept rep said they admit only 25 per year to BME and (if I remember correctly) only incoming first year students can enter (i.e., you can’t switch into it later). She mentioned that the people admitted almost always have perfect or near perfect SAT scores, are National Merit Finalists, and have accomplishments way beyond the norm such as (but not limited to) being winners/finalists in national/international science competitions, having published research, or are patent holders. Think Bill Gates/Steve Jobs/Elon Musk smart. She boasted they have had people turn down admission to Cal Tech and MIT to pursue BME at Johns Hopkins. She added that many people each year are declined by the BME program but are admitted to the university. Their other engineering programs are also stellar. Best of luck.
Lol I don’t even know why I applied BME at this point.
Oh boy. Not looking good then for my daughter who applied to BME!
JHU Regular decision results coming out on March 19th or April 1st?
On my daughter’s JHU admissions portal it says March 19th. "Regular Decision (RD) admissions notifications will be released on Friday, March 19, 2021, at 3 p.m. Eastern. "
Ummm… I’m not sure that is accurate at all. D21 was accepted BME and is none of those things you mentioned. Wow!
The only thing she made sure she did was satisfy all their requirements based on previous admitted students.
Top 10% of class
3.9+ UW GPA
Most rigor in her school.
She did NOT submit scores due to unable to but she was one of those College Board National Scholars
The only thing that may have really stood out for her was her ECs and leadership.
No published papers, national math/science competition.
People please do not listen to that comment. Also I know they take more than 25 students based on the number already accepted. D is on both the Discord & FB for accepted students and there is for sure over or at least 25 already.
Typo - should have read 125 vice 25. Sorry for confusion. They said acceptance rate is less than 10%. Not everyone in program has all the accomplishments listed, but many had at least one. They did say typical BME is the type of student who gets 5s on AP Calculus BC and Physics exams. Congrats to your daughter, she is clearly someone with a bright future.
Thank you. And I did mean to also say that I do believe people turn down Cal Tech & MIT for JHU’s BME program. Because it ranks higher and the research and development they have access to as early as Freshman year. It’s a top notch program! So that makes sense. Ranked #1.
Portal changed. Getting really close to the decision date!
It makes my D can’t sleep well now … Finger cross to all of us. May God give the best
it makes me nervous
Did anyone apply to the DMP International Relations program?? How selective is it? Bruh I’m so scared my entire why jhu was about the program and how i’d utilize its resources
I applied to the Global Health Studies DMP, but I haven’t seen much on acceptance rates but good luck!!
Has anybody heard from Johns Hopkins? The results are coming out today right?
Results come out Friday, 3/19 at 3pm.
ok thanks
you mean the 5 year program right? You can be admitted to the regular UG even if not admitted to the 5 year program. Correct me if I am wrong .
