Johns Hopkins vs Tufts Engineering--Social Life and Safety

It is delusional to think smart person like Bloomberg to spend hundreds of millions just to hire security force for no justified reason. With JHU’s push to arm the private security force, is it hard to understand that it needs 1100 strong to act as deterrence for various crimes.

There has recently been a rash of armed muggings near the JHU Homewood campus. Affiliates just got an email describing an armed robbery/abduction on 100 W University Pkwy (right across from the lacrosse stadium where there’s always a “security” officer stationed). The area is becoming increasingly unsafe. I’d definitely hesitate to send a kid there.

1000%. It’s a real shame as it’s a great school and really on the edge of lots of great research.

The Tufts medical/hospital complex in Boston is very small compared to that of JHU.

Hopkins has a lot of real estate in Baltimore beyond what has already been discussed. The main hospital complex (which is huge), the medical school, the nursing school, and school of Public Health get the lion’s share of the security presence. Hopkins also operates another hospital on the city, Bayview. Then add in the undergrad campus and Peabody conservatory.

I am also not sure if the 1000 person number is limited to Baltimore. Hopkins owns a hospital in Howard County, and two more in the DC area. It also has the School for Advanced International Studies in DC.
