Joining a frat...

I checked out this frat at Chicago and it sounds pretty neat. Anybody planning to join a frat at Chicago?

frat = no.

I've always wanted to join a fraternity since my brother started bringing home the most riduculous tales about his fraternity out at Pitt. But comparing a Pitt frat and a UChicago frat is probably as logical as comparing their academics. ;)

We should team up to find a decent one, j#cpc#.

Or you could create the anti-frat. :)

I was under the impression that there was only one fraternity at U of C...So you'd be joining THE frat...

Yep, I took a look at all 408 clubs at the University of Chicago and there was only 1 frat and it is a community service frat more than a social one. I also didn't see an economics or stock market club.

One frat.

One frat.

I guess this is the first compromise I'll be making for my UChicago education. :(

Pshh

You dont need a frat to validate your life ;)

what are the benefits of frats anyways?

Well there is always the idea that it well help you "fit in" and there is also the thought that you can always call on your frat buddies in the future and get jobs (especially in the business world).

Unfortunately it doesnt quite work that way, frats at different schools really arent all that connected and frats that are good now could be the crappy frat in 4 years and vice versa. When you actually ask people in the business world, they dont get hired because of what frat they were in...they dont even talk about what frat they were in with their friends.

To: j10cpc5000

The is a stock market club called Blue Chips.

cool, i'm in (assuming i'll get in. haha)

One frat? Not really...

Psi Upsilon, Delta Upsilon, Alpha Delta Theta, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Gamma Delta*, Sigma Epsilon, Alpha Eta Pi, Delta Kappa Epsilon, and Lambda Phi Epsilon.

The ones with (*) own frat houses.

Three sororities: Delta Gamma, Alpha Omricon Pi, and Kappa Alpha Theta.

In terms of reputations, Psi Upsilon and Phi Delta Theta are considered the "best" frats on campus, while Phi Gamma Delta is the most "state school like". All three also happen to be the ones housed on Frat Row, right behind Max Palevesky East.

Psi Upsilon is the preppy boys

Delta Upsilon is the physics majors (and their nickname is "D...ooops, I joined the wrong frat" because during O-Week they through non-stop parties making people believe it's like this all the time. It isn't. They through 80% of their social events during O-Week).

Phi Delt is considered the "econ" frat.

Alpha Delta Theta is the sketchy frat (that's just thier rep, they kids aren't actually sketchy). They host Bar Night every Wednesday.

Phi Gamma Delta* is the football frat.

Sigma Epsilon is hardly a frat.

Alpha Eta Pi is the Jewish frat.

Delta Kappa Epsilon is the Indian frat.

Lambda Phi Epsilon is the Asian frat.

Alpa Omicron Pi is the "sweet girl" sorority.

Kappa Alpha Theta is the "real sorority girls" sorority.

Delta Gamma is the one girls join because they couldn't get into the first two.

(keep in mind, these are generalizations about each frat's reputation on campus, not fact, all of them cater to different types of people).

Damn, I want to be in Phi Gamma Delta...but I don't play football.

So I'll do Psi Upsilon (if I get in). But only if they have real frat parties.

What does a econ fart do? I don't get it? Study econ together or something?

"What does a econ fart do? I don't get it? Study econ together or something?"

Hehe. Hardly. It is just that most of the members of Phi Delta Theta happen to be econ majors. The last thing they do is study Econ together...lol. Phi Delta Theta is also known as the "Abercrombie boys" frat.

another thing, i just heard that frats can be expensive... what does that mean? as a kid from a poor family, this IS the deciding factor.

also, how do ethnic frats differ besides race? just curious.

If you live in the frat house, frat's are not expensive, because you save a huge amount of money on living expenses. Living in a frat house is dirt cheap, about 60-70% less than living in the dorms or an apartment.

However, if you don't live in the frat house, yes, they are expensive. Most of the frats will cost you about $1,200-$1,400 a year.

cool thanks

all frats are different, all chapters are diferent so its hard to judge...check them all out, frats are fun , find a chapter that fits u
