I love the consortium concept of the 5C’s. Each school is unique and special and emphasize different things. Since the Mathematical/Life Sciences are a joint program with 3 colleges, I wonder why students choose one college over another. Since CMC and Pitzer more recognized for its Social Sciences, what do graduate schools and employers think of a degree in a Life Science from CMC or Pitzer? For Joint Science Program majors, is the school of your choice chosen because of the school’s specific cultural environment only or is the JSP one of the reasons to choose a JSP school? Is JSP being a huge department because of combined resources reason enough to choose of the 3 JSP schools? Besides the Athenaeum and its emphasis on real-world application, as well as leadership and social responsibility, what else makes CMC stand out? I love that Pitzer emphasizes social justice and environmental sensitivity, so I know that each college offers a different spin on a college experience. The consortium makes it possible to to experience different aspects of each school, but the specific school in which to enroll (if accepted) is a tough decision. Pomona is also on my list.
This same question has literally been on my mind as I am currently deciding whether or not to go to Claremont McKenna. I hope someone answers this please.
I’ve been accepted to UCSB, Cal Poly Pomona, and Claremont McKenna’s Computer Science major. After doing all my research my only question is Why should I go to a liberal arts school for a technical degree?
