King Abdullah II, the reigning monarch of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, will deliver a policy address at Princeton University at noon Friday, Feb. 29, sponsored by Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. The event will take place in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall, and is free and open to the public.

King Abdullah will address the future of Arab-American relations in the context of the Middle East's current challenges, particularly how to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which Jordan views as the most significant issue facing the region.

The Woodrow Wilson School (Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs | Home ) hosts numerous interesting speakers during the school year. Others so far this academic year have included the Korean Ambassador to the U.S., the former U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, NATO commander Eikenberry, the Comptroller General of the U.S., the French Ambassador to the U.S., and numerous national news figures such as Lou Cannon of the National Journal and Mara Liasson of National Public Radio. The Politics Department has its own schedule of speakers as well and many seminar classes will invite interesting public officials for private presentations and discussions. Taking advantage of these opportunities to speak with and learn from national and international figures is a real privilege. Such opportunities rarely arise after your college years. I wish I had taken advantage of more of them.

I suspect we will see a lot of him in the coming months as he attempts to garner academic credibility; King Abdullah University of Science and Technology is expected to open in September 2009.

PAH. They’re asking a virulent anti-semite, who funded Bin Laden during the years he supported the terror campaigns in Algeria and has provided money and arms to Hamas to discuss how to SOLVE the israeli conflict.

He’s an evil figure with evil ideals. He’s also incredibly stupid. It would have been more intereseting to get his slightly more sensible (but still not morally acceptable) son Prince Turki al Faisal who studied at Princeton to speak.

golly, i jsut want to point out some of ur ignorance…ur speaking od King Abdullah the King of Saudi Arabia…the OP is refrencing King Abdullah the king of JORDAN.

So b4 u go show off ur knowedge of Middle Eastern Affairs, get the basics right…jsut thought it would be funny to point out.

Actually, King Abdullah II of Jordan is a terrific speaker, and very versed in Western culture. He spoke my our graduation two years ago… he’s a Deerfield Academy alum.

My dear plzaccept1989. I made what is called an “assumption”. I saw the words “King”, “Abdullah” and “Israel” and figured it would be Saudi Arabia as the King Abdullah is one of the most recognizable figures in Middle Eastern politics.

A simple mistake doesn’t warrant a whiney, sarcastic comment. Especially from someone who can’t be bothered to type out “your” in full. schmuck.

You should only hope, gollygoshkins, that others treat your habit of blithely spouting incendiary opinions nearly as lightly as plzaccept1989, rather than simply punch you in the face.

Good god. You can only be referring to my anaylsis of the Saudi Arabian King. Are you suggesting that the Saudi Arabian monarchy is morally acceptable? They’ve just agreed to have a woman executed for witchcraft.

And wow; incendiary Opinions? How is condemning an incredibly cruel despotic government (who have had women who have been raped executed for adultery) incendiary? There is something incredibly dangerous about someone such as your yourselves who can defend such intolerence and cruelty so naively and thoughtlessly.

How can such skewed justice be acceptable? And how can defending it be even right?

What I say is, unless you have decided to boycott oil, you support the “morally unacceptable” governemnt of Saudi Arabia everyday. Stop judging people for defending “such intolerence and cruelty so naively and thoughtlessly” because you do it everytime you purchase or use oil.

Keep politics off this board, especially when you are going to thoughtlessly use hateful language.

gollygoshkins, I don’t get where you find the moral high ground to criticize plzaccept1989 for his slightly sarcastic comment, after you didn’t bother to read the title of the thread or the first post of the thread before making a stupid and entirely misdirected comment, and then calling him a “schmuck” in response to his entirely valid point.

Next time, actually read the thread and think it through for a couple of seconds before you start pounding out vitriol that’s not even relevant.

Gollygoshkins, I don’t think the nature of your opinion is the issue here, so there’s no need for you to defend it. The issue is that it was completely irrelevant, considering Saudi Arabia has nothing to do with anything in this thread - which you would have known had you read the thread’s title.

I’m slowly going insane with you lot. RIGHT:

1) YES. It was a hastily written comment. I did NOT see that it was the Jordanian King. I assumed it was the more well known figure - the Saudi Arabian King.

2) Of course I buy Saudi oil, and I agree with the West’s alliance with the Saudis. That doesn’t mean I have to approve of them. As Winston Churchhill said: "If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons. "

3) I was responding to the highly personal remark made originally by plzaccept in which he was rude and patronizing. It was a simply mistake and I refuse to believe that someone can be offended by it enough to respond with an unhelpful and childish remark. I then am accused of making incendiary opinions. About what? Calling the Saudi King a “virulent anti-Semite”? Does anyone really doubt that he is? He’s poured more money into terrorism and anti-Israeli activities than anyone, has approved the tearing down of churches and synagogues, and arrested Jews and Christians for the crime of practicing their own religions. So Kelliebm, the “nature of my opinion” was drawn out by the foolish remark from GR Elton.

4) Plzaccept, calling you a schmuck WAS rude, and I apologize.

Right. Can we play nicely now?

Your humbled but still stubbornly correct fellow CC contributor,

Not to diffuse things or anything but isn’t his step-mother Queen Nor, the Princeton grad/American of Lebanese descent who married King Hussein like 20 years ago?

Golly i guess world histroy is not your favorite subject, I just think this is funny…the Saudi king (along with all other Arabs) is a semite… Arabs are semetic.

Last time I checked Saudi Arabia was an Arab country. Do not beilive me?
