Journalism Major

I’m looking at schools to major in journalism, and saw Iowa had a fantastic writing program and decent journalism school. With regards to the journalism program, I want to eventually work in advertising, and as such, my portfolio will be very important. I was wondering if there was ample opportunity to develop a portfolio there, and was also curious as to the quality and availability of internships in various communications fields there. Lastly, is there sufficient opportunity to specialize within the J-School with electives, student organizations and the like, or do all participants get roughly the same experience? Any information from anyone with experience with the college would be incredibly helpful, thanks!

I forgot to add, is the department known for a particular emphasis on one particular area of journalism, ie. Print or Broadcast?

Is it considered one of the top majors at the college? (Sorry, I keep thinking if new questions I have)
