I have long wanted to study journalism in college as either a major or a minor. However, my top choice doesn't have a journalism program. Instead, they have "Media Studies", which is, if you read the listing of classes, essentially the same thing as Journalism. Will that affect me when I try to get a career in the journalism field?

Wow is this an “it depends” question…journalism schools (like Medill at Northwestern, Newhouse at Syracuse, UMissouri) all emphasize both writing and practical experience…some media studies programs are historically or critically based; more like a study of media…will it affect you in finding a career? it depends where you are talking about…but you need to figure out which approach you would rather take…

you can major in anything, technically, if you want to get a career in journalism, per se…

Compensate by taking a few extra courses in journalism and writing. A couple of good internships would also help.
