for number 18 a got it 80/3 but i took a lot of time solving it
so i was wondering if there was an easy way to solve it
for number 14 i left it,it looked hard.
and can you guys give questions that are similar to question 14?

The quick method for 18 is to use the harmonic mean formula (or Xiggi’s formula as people on this forum like to call it).

average speed = 2(speed 1)(speed 2)/(speed 1 + speed 2) = 2(20)(40)/ (20 + 40) = 80/3.

Note that Xiggi’s formula can only be used when the 2 distances are the same.

For 18, if you can’t remember the formula, you can just solve for the amount of total time, and then divide the total distance by total time. To solve for total time just use t = d / v for each of the 10 mile segments then add them together.
For 14, the multiple choice answers aren’t in the photo but the quantity that 2 represents is c, because that the height that each additional cup adds. We can infer from the picture and the equation that the height of a is 8 inches, and the height of c is 2 inches.

If n increases by 1, h(n) increases by c. Therefore “2” must equal c.

Sorry for number 14 my bad [ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting](ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs)
