Sits basically pull in front of the dorm… unload the car… then park in the visitors parking lot after unloading. About what time of day did you get there?

Early, sometime in the first hour or two.

Thanks for the feedback. One less thing to be concerned with.

Here, sounds like you need some more worries. Happy to oblige. :)

[I'm So Worried, Monty Python - YouTube](<a href=“I'm So Worried, Monty Python - YouTube”>I'm So Worried, Monty Python - YouTube)

Thanks…to quote a line from the Holy Grail…“I’m feeling better now”

Move-in yesterday went very smoothly despite serious construction around the entrance to Tilton that should be completed before next week. Lots of upperclass helpers; very smooth check in. It seemed to me that maybe only half the pre-orientation kids actually moved everything in yesterday. Remember your fans, everyone, Those rooms are HOT!

According to the Pre-Orientation brochure a little over half the pre-orientation sudents check in on the 23rd the remaining on the 25th and 26th.

Did you have time to go out and buy stuff once there? Anything important that you wish you brought but didn’t? We’re not going until 29th so in the process of packing.

Traditionally - every past year - there’s been a massive excursion to Target/BB&B during orientation with buses and everything - but it happens once the parents leave. If the dorm room isn’t completely tricked out on that first day, it’s ok. Between the T, the orientation trips, and Amazon - there is no shortage of opportunity to get things as the need arises, rather than trying to pack a dorm room with the full-swiss-army-knife of collegiate accessories.

momworried: Although we brought a lot with us (trash basket, laundry bag, some office supplies etc.) we also used this trip to scope the room out – how many outlets, lighting, etc. We did our shopping locally and did not go to Kmart or another big box store in Boston.

Based on the room in Tilton, which I expect is fairly typical, you will definitely need:

extension cords and power strips – maybe two or three double outlets in the room
a desk lamp and a bed light --there’s fluorescent-type overhead lighting
a good fan
a rug (floor is linoleum)
a general purpose cleaner and paper towels (if you’re a neat freak like me)

We waited to buy toiletries and just made a trip the night before to CVS is Davis Square.

Good news: the room is a nice size, very sunny, and with a lot of storage. Bad news: the dorms are showing their age. The furniture, floors, and common rooms are all very worn. Time to remodel Tufts!

Do they need a suit or nice pants with a jacket with them? A tie?

My son has his just in case.

Hey fellow parents,

On Wed. morning do we go straight to S’s dorm … or elsewhere (Dowling Hall?) to pick up student id, key card, etc.? Thanks for any info!

Last week, the pre-orientation kids picked up their IDs and keys at the back of the Mayer Student Center, where tables were set up outside. There were also tons of upperclassmen/women stationed at tables right outside the dorms (not to check students in but to help).

I’m sure there will be lots of people and campus police around to ask, or contact the undergrad orientation folks: [Undergraduate Orientation - Student Services - Tufts University](<a href=“Undergraduate Orientation | AS&E Students”>Undergraduate Orientation | AS&E Students)

I remember reading somewhere that they pick up keys at the dorm.

You pick up keys to the dorm unless you arrive after 11:30am, in which case you pick them up at South Hall =)

Thanks everyone–move in day went very smoothly! Sad to leave him of course, but a lovely day overall. He’s in good hands…

Welcome to the Tufts family, moms and dads. :)

Thanks Dan. I thought move-in was handled exceptionally well, went very smoothly, and the Convocation ceremony was really wonderful. We’re so excited for our son, whose TWO experience was also just incredible. We can’t wait to hear all about the year to come.

I can’t believe how lucky we got with the weather yesterday. I was actually chilly during the matriculation ceremony. The move in went very smooth. The student helpers were great. He was in his room and unpacked in an hour. The room was nice and clean. Closets are tiny. He took very little clothes with him and it was still tight. Can’t imagine where the girls keep all their stuff. Lol. The bathrooms need some renovations. There really should be some hooks on the door for a towel. I miss him terribly. I burst into tears every time I walk into his room. Thank god I have another kid at home. He sounds very happy and excites though when he calls so I know he’s having a great time and making new friends.
