disdained
innocuous
loss as well as a gain

@kaitlin01 Thank you for your wonderful posts, you seem like the only one in possession of a memory span of a normal human being.

I agree with all the answers you posted but one, the question in math where there are two circles tangent to each other. I’m almost positive that the answer is r * square root of 5. The line segment whose length was asked for was a hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle, with one side being r and other being 2r. Therefore, the answer should be calculated as sqrt(r^2 + (2r)^2) = sqrt (5r^2) = r sqrt (5).

detached
also an answer? (for the chinese one)

yes, removed=detached

and loss as well as gain was correct

mathematicism
I thought we were give the hypotenuse
and we needed to find out the length for one of the sides…or not?

@kipling - same as yours (the writing q)

@mathematicicism - same answers in everything I posted (including CR) or just in math? I really really remember seeing that the side asked for is the longer leg, not the hypotenuse. In the circle at the bottom, the radius was the shorter leg. The hypotenuse is 2r (went through 2 of those circles), and the missing length was the longer leg that went beyond the 2 circles (the right angle symbol was outside the circle…). So r^2 + ___ = 4r^2. The blank would then equal to r sqrt 3.

DID I JUST READ THE QUESTION WRONG?!?!!?! :(

kaitlin you’re right
I got that too
I remember getting sqr root 5 at first then I realized that I had to find the longer side not the hypotenuse so I changed the answer to sqr root 3

Gents, it’s r sq. rt of 3 not 5, you subtract.
Plus, it’s “they were too busy” - I’m rather sure of it, the author kept talking about how the people in rural areas weren’t ever busy and stuff.

I’m inclined not to believe these. I put the common one as E - not sure what it was but it had something to do with literary stuff maybe. And the second I don’t remember the answer but that wasn’t what I put =/

jimmy - didn’t the second passage say something about before we can get these animals do something (i.e. attack) we first need to know how these animals * work * and then I remember after that sentence there was a statement enclosed in parentheses that described the squid (8 tentacles, giant eyes, etc). so then the quoted line in the first passage (Jules Verne’s 20 Thousand Leagues, I think, about the squid attacking) would make the author of passage 2 think that before the attacking part of the book, there would be a description because he said “…we first need to know how these animals work”… ??? I can’t remember the other choices tho :(

It did indeed, and I based my answer off of that. You might be correct, I don’t know, because I was torn between your answer and mine (which I can’t remember now) but I put some other one I think. I’m not sure of anything anymore :(

jimmy - Did you look through the questions and answers I posted in the last few pages? Do you remember if you have any answers different from mine?

Yeah me too :frowning: I thought I was pretty sure of some answers, but then now I see I have such different answers :frowning: Hopefully the curve in CR would be generous. Anyone predict what the curve’s gonna be like??

let’s make it easier by keep adding answers,ok? (like the American’s thread)

From kaitlin01: (I’ve added my ideas)

Encyclopedia:

 • Some quote about the future generation scorning upon the wrong data in the encyclopedia and filling a new one with their own nonsense. What does this suggest about the future generations–> A: they give themselves too much credit (I can’t remember this question :-s)

Motorbike

 • What does it suggest about those people who give short responses –> can’t remember the answer… but it was an obvious one I think. Anyone remember? I think the answer is that they are too busy or so
 • What does it suggest about those people who greet them, etc –> A: They are fully immersed in the present –> yeah… im not so sure
 • How does the author view the “frame” (first paragraph when he was criticizing TV stuff) –> A:restricting? I can’t remember the answer choices…
 • The last question asked what the author meant by saying “puzzling” –> A: we don’t see those stuff directly in front of us, the obvious (or something like that) –> I chose D, the choice was we do not see the truth although it’s right in front of us

Squid:

 • Something about the “dragons” etc –> A: they’re legendary creatures –> agree
 • Common to both passages –> A: no one has studied/documented a live squid –> I do not think so
 • The one about the book that described the squid attacking stuff, what would the author of passage 2 infer –> A: that before it there are detailed descriptions about the squid
 • Something about comparing the 2 passages –> A: 2nd passage talks about how people view the creature described in 1st passage
 • In the anecdote part, the captain said he didn’t know how to react and then there was another quotation from the 2nd passage (it was a question, the first sentence in a paragraph I think … and starts with “can”), what do these quotations suggest –> A: the squid’s unbelievability (not a word, but you get the point)–> that’s the word  ‘unbelievability’
 • Asks what would happen if we did figure out the mystery about the squid –> A: I remember I didn’t pick the one that said “loss as well as gain”… anyone remember what the answer is? Oh I think it was something about regrettable occurrence (or something like that? Sorry! Really can’t remember )–> this is an easy one and thus I cannot remember the answer :p

Oh, I remembered I chose 5 Es in section 3 (WRITING) and 4 or less Es in section 6. What about you guys?

Anyone remember what the other choices were for the squid passages, what’s common to them both? I’m not sure of that either, I know there was a question like that but I can’t remember what the choices were…

They both talk about a nearly mythical creature? Something like that.

oh yeah I think I remember that. I think I answered that … I can’t remember anymore :frowning: I thought I answered “no one has studied a live squid” too, but I guess to another question? Anyone remember questions??

That last one was something along the lines of “loss as well as gain” because P2 explicitly states that we need it but we need to not need it or something like that. I wouldn’t worry about it though - it was one of the easier ones.
I know that I put the one about the encyclopedia differently - I think. Had something to do with how they’re foolish (something like that.)

Motorbike: -Too busy (pretty sure)
-Fully immersed in present (100% sure)
-Puzzling = don’t see the truth even if it’s right in front of us (truth comes knocking on your door and you tell it to leave)
-Frame - one of the easier ones

Anyone remember what that one about “what he enjoys about being on a motorbike” was? The freedom of whatever and stuff? I think I kept that one blank.

Squid: Well I don’t know what I put the first 3 but different from those posted.
Actually I’m not sure what I put the third.

jimmy - yeah I think it was freedom stuff.

Motorbike passage again, I just remembered there was a question where I answered “the immediacy” … anyone remember??
