June 2010 SAT Results Thread

i found the writing pretty hard for this test. I usually only get 1 or 2 wrong. occasionally 3 on writing but the june one was harder than any other writing ive ever seen haha.

haha well i went from a 690 to 800 on writing… did my writing skills change that much in the space of a few months? nope. the SAT really just measured how many practice tests I did. :)

Why do most people do the worst on critical reading? The writing section is always a crapshoot for me…

Does anyone think that I should retake the SAT with these scores? (I think possibly for the essay. I feel that I can do better.)

740 Critical Reading
760 Math
670 Writing (66 MC) ; (9 Essay)

so 2170 total.

Not to keep reiterating the same question, but should I retake?

CR 680
M 800
W 770 (12 Essay) (72 MC)

I’m aiming for good schools and these scores seem to be well within or above their ranges. However, are there any scholarships that I’d miss out on because of my 2250? I’m especially worried about anything that takes it out of 1600 because I only have a 1480, what do you guys think?

And what’s the “Presidential Scholars Program?” Is it purely SAT based?

The initial round is. Then you send essays and transcripts and such. Your score is too low at the moment for that program, though.

If it helps, I’m from SC. So how high are we talking, would I need to increase Reading to above 780’s?

Many states’ cutoffs are 1600/1600. Some are 1590; a few are 1580.

Knowing you standardized testing abilities, any tips on the Critical reading silverturtle?

And in your opinion, is it worth the retake? The other parts of my “profile” are quite strong and I’m not exactly sure what I should do.

I can email you my yet-unreleased guide if you want.

Improving your CR score would be very helpful.

Yay. March scores: 650 CR, 620 Math, 620 Writing. June scores: 800 CR 610 Math, 740 Writing. Do you guys think I should retake it? And how far off from Ivy are my new scores? I intend to go to law school and never take another math class again after I finish IB calculus this coming senior year.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I studied for 15+ hours for the first test and not at all for the second test. Again, do you guys think I should retake? I suck eggs at math and will never raise it nor will I take math in college, so is retaking in hopes of getting a higher writing score worthwhile? I consider the perfect 800 on the critical reading a bit of a clutch performance.

Well I guess writing just comes easily then, or CB messed up. Either way, I’m happy with my 800  Can’t wait for the 29th though - I want to know if I got a 12 essay. Only gotten a 10 before.

@silverturtle and silenceizsik
I’m fairly certain both of you got a 2400, so I have a quick question: I currently have a 660 on CR and 800’s on both W and M, so that’s great. But I plan on applying to colleges like MIT where it’d be a lot more helpful (or at least less damaging) to have anywhere between a 700 and 800 on the CR. Plus, in the BB practice tests I did, not a single test was below 680 (and it was often higher) so I was surprised at my score. I’m considering retaking in November (after SAT II’s in Oct.) to raise the CR to anywhere near a 750. Quick opinion? CR’s always been the 1 section I needed to study for anyway, it’s kind of annoying.

As for your guide, can I just ask how the CR portion would help? I already saw the SC part (which I thought was excellent, by the way) but I was wondering what kind of tips you had for the CR section - how to read the text, think, some question types, dealing with different question types (line ref. Qs vs tone questions or something of that kind)?
At any rate, I’m awaiting your guide patiently  I’ll even read the math and writing portions (though there’s no reason to) - it should be a great read - especially the college admissions part of it.

PM me your email. I have essentially finished the entirety of the guide tonight (SAT and admissions); all that is left is to proofread and wait for feedback.

I hate to keep asking questions, but silverturtle, do you think that taking the SAT more than once looks bad to colleges or quite the opposite? And did you take the SAT more than once?

Taking the SAT twice is fine and he only took them once. (I’m a stalker)

It certainly will not hurt to take it more than once, although you don’t want to over do it (you get in this territory when you have taken four or more tests).

I got a 10 on my essay and I wrote about World of Warcraft haha. I think my graders play.

^like

so when is the 2011 SAT practice test coming out?

Most people take the SAT more than once; doing so is perfectly fine. I took it once freshman year and again junior year.
