I only used two examples in my essay so it’s not surprising. I’m happy getting 2100+ on my first time taking the sat. Not sure if I should bother retaking though.

For my essay, I had 4 paragraphs total with 2 examples.

I love how things are working out! :)]

@Brodysseus - I only had 2 examples and got a 12. So no, your having 2 examples didn’t result in your getting an 8.

^ To extend upon that, there are people who use one example and get 12’s.

^I used a very unconventional format for the June one - I’m assuming I got an 11-12 because I’m around 90% sure I didn’t get an 80 on the MC and yet I got an 800 on W.
What I did was use an example of a TV show that exploits people’s “courage” (courage was the topic) through their greed for money, and I gave my opinion on it using sophisticated language and excellent thinking. By the way, by “my opinion” I don’t mean I used “I think” or “I believe” - though I did use “I”. Also, the example didn’t so much make up my essay - it was more of the explanation than the example. I’m assuming it worked I’ll report my essay grade back later.

In short, you don’t always need excellent examples to get a 10+ - some sophisticated thinking and language will get you there. I’ve noticed the readers really care about how you think in the essay (progression of ideas, organization, critical thinking, etc.) as well as language (should be adequate, preferably with a lack of repetition and many sentence structures) and how you get your point across.

Is there anything preventing you from checking it now? How do you not know?

@ Jimmy - Not that I don’t believe you, but a 10 with a -1 mc yielded an 800 on this test.

Alternate theory is that they thought I sounded pretentious

Well, that’s low. Is that true for the international version or just the US one? The writing portion wasn’t difficult enough for -1 to be 10. It should’ve been a normal curve - neither harsh nor generous.

What kind of “match schools” would you guys suggest?

I used 2 examples in my essay and I got 12. First paragraph was on ‘mental courage’ and used John Proctor from ‘The Crucible’ as an example. Second paragraph was on ‘physical courage’ and used Jessica Watson (haha I’m from Australia, if you havemt surmised yet :D).

I’m surprised that I got 800, considering my - 4 MC. But hey, I have no qualms. ;)

Huh
Do they have different essay questions or did you take it on another day

My question was on solitude and achieving goals

I don’t think that’s possible. What makes you say that?

I think he’s confusing 76 (scaled) MC with -4 MC

^ Where are you aiming for?

Ehhhhh, maybe I am amalgamating the notations. My bad. I meant to say i got 76 for MC. :D

Incidentally, change ‘he’ to a ‘she’.

ucf, rollins, pace, george washington, emory, barry… i kno its low for george washington and emory … also i want a really good scholarship… is this grade good

@ Jimmy - I didn’t think the writing was that difficult either, but the curve turned out to be extremely lenient: -1 was a 79. -1 w/ a 10, 11, or 12 essay was an 800.
