***June 2014: ACT Scores***

While a 35 is really really good, a 36 is the top

Mmm… Ok for me, I don’t consider 36 to be the one and only top. I consider at least 33-36 to be like the cream of the crop top.

30-32 is like…runner-up top to me :P

And honestly,it’s not that big of a deal since after college admissions, that 36 won’t matter or help pay your bills or get you a job lol.

I didn’t say it mattered after college. Test scores are one part of the application, so why not make them as good as you possibly can

@austin23 I’m with you 100%.

If someone is already at a position of excellence and they strive to improve themselves even more, that is an admirable quality.

Nobody should let someone stop them from striving to be the very best they can be. To do so is a recipe for mediocrity. @nashirsh should go for if they want to. I’ll be cheering you on.

Exactly

It probably wouldn’t be a good idea to retake it because that may come off to colleges as him being really pretentious :expressionless: I’m sure he has much better things to do than retake the ACT again.

Anyone get scores today, or did the ACT agent I chatted with give me bad info about them uploading more scores last night and releasing some this morning? (It’s getting past time they normally release, so I’m about to give up for the day.

@Jellybae‌
How would colleges even know? Each act test date is on a different score report

Some colleges require you to report every sitting. With a 35, I’m sure he’s applying to top tier colleges. I’m pretty sure those colleges require all sittings. Retaking a 35 is not a good look considering the type of people those colleges want. @austin23‌

@Jellybae Exactly. That’s where I’m trying to get at. They are going to wonder why is the person wasting time chasing after that ONE wrong question? They are at the top 1%, how much higher can you get from that?

I say to work on essays, recommendations,ec’s,and grades right now.Testing is out of the way for him fortunately.

@‌CATDECAL

“If someone is already at a position of excellence and they strive to improve themselves even MORE, that is an admirable quality.”

To an extent yes. But …how can you improve with a 35 act? :l Keep taking the test and wasting money until you get that ONE question right? I don’t see improvement there really…just kinda being really nit picky.

“Nobody should let someone stop them from striving to be the very best they can be. To do so is a recipe for mediocrity. @nashirsh should go for if they want to. I’ll be cheering you on.”

Of course. No one is stopping someone, just telling them their opinion based on their own perspective. But a 35 is wayyy far from mediocre. Not even close. Yes,one should reach for the top, but don’t go and try to go beyond the limits set. If he wants to retake to worry himself over that one question that isn’t really a big deal in my opinion, then that’s on him and I will respect that.

Sorry if I sound harsh.

There’s no point in retaking a 35(unless you got a low writing score). The only difference between a student who has a 35 and a student who has a 36 is that one student made a silly mistake on one question, not the kid with the 36 is a genius while the kid with the 35 is a ■■■■■■. If you want to retake then go ahead and retake it, but you could spend those 3 hours perfected the more important parts of your app(Essays).

@CATDECAL It does not appear that anyone got scores today. This is the first wed or friday with no one saying “I got my scores…” And another cc poster reported that they called ACT the other day and was told that there would be no scores posted after Wednesday this week and that the nest batch will be released next Wednesday. DS still has not gotten his back (took it in CT) and everyone else he knows already got theirs back. It does seem that the ACT organization is disorganized and gives random information to callers. I have never bothered to call but other CC posters who say they have called report conflicting information on various topics.

It is a bit maddening bc the September test date is filling up in some testing sites so I had to go ahead and sign him up without knowing if his score is good enough to stop taking it. Maybe (hopefully!) it will be $54 wasted. So he will check again on Monday, but I am guessing that Wednesday will be next release date.

@barbfam1‌ It seems you are correct.

Btw… Hope you get a great score when it posts!

SOMEONE PLEAse tell me when scores are mailed home. I’ve asked SOO MANY times n

wow, so much support. thanks guys!

yeah, haha theres no freaking way im wasting four more hours of my life on that again. a 35 versus a 36 wont change where i get into college, let alone any realizable aspect in my life, so im just gonna chill.
i like to think of myself as someone who strives to be at the top, but i mean thats just ridiculous haha.

good luck everybody!!

33 composite 34 super score
36-math
35-English
32-science :frowning:
29-reading :(

Any tips to increase that reading like at least 3-4 points…I’ve tried like everything

Okay, so this was my 2nd time taking the ACT. I ended up with these scores:
English–35
Math–34
Reading–34
Science–30
Composite–33

If I’m shooting for Ivies (i.e. Harvard, Yale, etc.), are these scores adequate? I REALLY do not want to take this evil exam again. I mean, I took at least 10 practice tests before the exam and still ended up with a 30 in science. HOW?!?!?!?!?! I really thought I did better than that. Any advice? Should I retake it in September?

Tbh, 30-36 are good but one can still get rejected, regardless of high test score.

I say if you want to retake,go for it. But if you don’t want to,then don’t.

@coroxstar7 33 is not particularly strong for the Ivies.

There is much more to getting in an Ivy than a test score, but for many of them a 33 would be considered at best a “neutral” vs. a “plus” on your application. Also you are one sub-score point away from a 34.

You are obviously exceptionally smart, so in my opinion you’d be a great candidate for a retake.

@coroxstar7‌ I also got a 33 and I’m one point away from a 34 as well. I’m torn between retaking and not retaking, but I plan on retaking. You should too.
