Hey all,

I'm currently registered to take the May 27th test. Unfortunately, I haven't had as much time to study during the semester as I would have liked. If I move it back to June 13th, is that too late to apply as early as all the early birds this summer? Is it possible to send in primaries without an MCAT score?

Thanks!

Two things are required to send in your primary:

Verification of your course grades by AMCAS

A MCAT score

Your MCAT score, asssuming you take the June 13th MCAT, will be available in mid-July. So, your goal would be to have AMCAS verify your grades before then. You should complete the AMCAS application and send in your transcripts to AMCAS by early June. AMCAS will then verify your course grades (which takes on the order of days in June and on the order of WEEKS in August/September). Your application will then sit there until mid-July when your MCAT score comes out. You will be able to submit your primary immediately after your MCAT score arrives. So, your secondaries will begin flooding in in mid-July. Typically, AMCAS doesn't send out primaries until late June anyway so you will only be a couple of weeks behind the earliest appliers (but still ahead of the majority of applicants). No biggie.

The other thing to get ready in the meantime is your LOR's. Make sure your letter writers have them written by June and have them send your LOR's to Interfolio or your school's premed committee. Remember, most med schools need your secondaries and your LOR's before they consider you for interviews so simply having your primaries in early is not enough. You have to be vigilant about finishing secondaries (typically within 2 weeks of receiving them) and sending in your LOR's.
