I’m a freshman tentatively planning to apply for junior year to a boarding school. How much slimmer are your chances of getting into a GLADCHEMMS/similar (Concord, Peddie) school as a junior? There are generally much fewer acceptances, but also fewer applicants…

Hi,
I’m a rising junior who successfully navigated the admissions process for multiple major schools. To answer your question, yes, you should try.
Neither your scores nor your gpa are bad. Focus on maintaining/improving both. (Read a lot and pay attention in math!) These schools want new juniors who will hit the ground running academically but most importantly, contribute to the entire community. You seem to be really into journalistic writing stuff. Develop that interest and you’ll find something to make you competitive.
Some schools plan to expand the class up to or past the junior year, some schools will usually only replace students that leave. What I learned most is that they’ll take as few or as many (but not a big many!) as they want.
Hi,
I also successfully applied as a junior in this years app cycle. It is defiantly more selective but you look like you have a good chance.
What I got from a lot of schools is that it is really important that you succeed right away socially and academically. One AO told me they don’t even look at kids who don’t play a fall sport because the team really helps them fit in. I am sure showing interest in clubs will have the same affects if you are not athletic.
Also ask your AO about space. We had one school tell us that they only had 2 spots while some had 16. It all depends! Hope this helps and hope everything works out for you!
