Junior Boarding School Financial Aid for International students

My son would like to attend boarding school at grade 7.

Does anyone know which junior boarding schools provide financial aid to international students?

Aid at the boarding schools for internationals is extremely limited. If you’re from a country that is not represented at the schools you may have a shot. If you’re from Asia or Europe, it will be very tough. You might try Goton for 8th grade.

Thanks Waverly.
I’m from Singapore. I have thought of trying for Thomas Jefferson School in St Louis at Grade 7 and try Groton at Grade 8 a year later if unsuccessful. Or again at Grade 9 and hopefully more choices may increase the chance of my son getting accepted by then.
He is a bright kid and is in a gifted programme currently but is keen to spread his wings.
I wish to help him fulfil his dreams.

Are you looking at only boarding schools in the US?

Indian Springs School has some scholarships ([Indian Springs School ~ Scholarships](Scholarships at Indian Springs School | Birmingham, AL)) for students entering grade 8-12.

Your big problem lovingmum is going to be that there are many fullmpaying applicants from Singapore, so the boarding schools are unlikely to spend Their few dollars for internationals on a kid from countries they have much choice from. You’ll need to find a way for him to truly stand out. Good luck!

Thanks 082349. Yes, I’m looking at only boarding schools in USA because I have relatives there. Your reccomendation is good. I will try for Indian Springs School.

Thanks Waverly. My son is 10+ years old, in Grade 5. I understand that SSAT Lower level is the test to take. Do you think the school will take notice if he takes the SSAT Upper or even the SAT (to take at age 13) and get high scores? I feel that’s the only tangible way to ‘stand out’ as the other things like sports and non-academic activities seem difficult to quantify and compare.

It will be very hard from Singapore, as good boarding schools get many full pay applicants from your country. I’d stick with the grade appropriate SSAT and let him do very well on it. There’s much more aid starting with grade 9. You may want o target eom of the good, but less well know schools, so not Andover and St. Pauls, but Peddie and Cate.

Thanks Waverly. Will look at Peddie and Cate.
