Hello,
My son and I went to Georgetowns Junior Day last week and was very impressed with how nicely it was run.The team stayed with the kids the entire day through the tour and had a very well run Q&A with the swim team afterwards. It was obvious how close of a team they are.Just wondering about some of your Junior Day experiences both good and bad.
My husband and son went to the Junior Day in April. This was the only one that our son has been invited to so we can’t compare but they both liked it. I just saw that the assistant coach has a new job at the University of Houston but I assume the head coach is staying.
The assts do tend to move often working their way up to head coach positions
Over the years we have come across same asst. at different schools while looking with different kids
We too were impressed with coach and how close team was with each other boys and girls
I am not sure how common junior days are for swimmers/divers. They are certainly common in football recruiting. We’ve had experience with both.
My son attended two swim/dive junior days: Cornell and Georgetown, and of the two, Cornell put on the better presentation - although both were good. Each recruit and his/her family had 1-2 Cornell team members take them around for a tour - as opposed to Georgetown where one tour guide took 50 or so people on a walk through the campus. Of course, it was 70 and sunny when my son toured Cornell; I had to remind him that Ithaca is not so pleasant during the winter months.
Our only real experience with junior days are for football - a completely different vibe. More testosterone and more people at the football junior days. I found both junior days that my son attended for swim/dive to be more intimate - with more interaction between recruits and the coaches and the current team members.
