“my parents won’t contribute to any private ranked lower than top 15 >.>” - We did not give son a precise college cost cap because the answer would depend on the caliber/fit of college acceptances, our job security etc. But I do find that ratings-based rule unfortunate. So much depends on desired major, fit, etc.

Good luck. Perhaps as time goes on your parents will do more research and soften their rule.

Wow so much great advice :D. Thank you everyone!

Marian- Really? That’s so comforting to hear. Cornell is on my mind 24/7 because well… haha it’s really a dream school for me. I heard their AEM program is actually toughest to get into because most of the athletes take up the spots…

Please tell me not all cornell students are like that.

Levirm- Ahh really I was planning on double majoring too I’ll look into the school more. I think my parents would laugh if I suggested it though ._.; (because it’s out of reach haha).

nngmm- I’ve been looking at NYU for a while… trying to get them to accept it. They’re still not too fond of it, mainly because of the price and it lacks prestige… although stern is actually very prestigious.

WUSTL… both my parents went there so double legacy? P: I was considering it, but… this is going to sound terrible but I read about how an african american was discriminated a year ago from washu. I’m that sheltered california kid and I’m just plain scared and disgusted of racism . I understand that it’s everywhere, but I heard at washu it’s pretty bad. It’s still on my list though. If anyone knows anything else about the school, I’d love to hear the info.

colorado_mom- haha i… don’t think so >.>; hopefully though i might just have to settle with uc irvine

oh yea i was wondering…

can uc irvine and uc davis be considered safeties for me? i’m pretty sure a 3.2+ in our school practically guarantees admission to uc irvine, but uc davis i’m not too sure

Cornell students come in a wide variety of styles.

There are people for whom their fraternity or sorority is the center of their Cornell existence and others who have no interest at all in the Greek system. There are people who are very actively involved in multiple activities and others who never join anything of an organized nature. There are high-powered people and others who are more relaxed. There are politically active people and those who are indifferent to politics. And then there’s the fact that Cornell consists of seven very different undergraduate colleges. The people who are attracted to the School of Hotel Administration and those who are attracted to the College of Engineering are so different from each other that they could almost be members of different species.

Not exactly in WashU but in St Louis. Think I should apply then? With a double legacy, I just might have a shot. But…I’m just a little bit in love with Cornell and UPenn right now :)

Marian- Ahh thats comforting haha I don’t mind sororities and frats, there just seems to be a lot of trash talk on that site. Kind of depressing.

I’m thinking about eding to Cornell/WashU/JHU (maybe)/UPenn now

UPenn places a lot of emphasis on class rank though, so I’m not sure it’s worth losing an ED to Cornell… Any other school suggestions? :D

Your GPA makes most of these schools a pretty far reach. With double legacy, WUSTL ED is a better shot I think… I doubt you will get into Cornell or Penn ED. At best, you’ll be deferred.
You need to take SAT subject tests.

That’s what I was thinking at first… But it looks like a lot of it is luck to me. Either the readers love me and think I’m an amazing applicant for my unique ECs, or they think they’re not enough to cover my grades. It’s like I’ll either end up in a top 15 or a top 40… >.>; This entire thread has been a mix of either top schools or ones on the lower end haha o-o

And yes, I’ll be taking those later Math + Chemistry probably, expecting 750+ .
