Junior Year Schedule - Too much?

Here is my junior year schedule

Calc AB AP
English AP (not exactly sure which one - but the first one)
Chem AP
Bio AP
World History AP
Intern/Mentor G/T(Intern with somebody - yes it's a class)
Latin III Honors

In addition, self-study

Psychology AP
Environmental Science AP
Human Geography AP
United States History AP

And considering Micro/Macroeconomics self-study

Is this manageable?

Your school schedule looks stellar. US History is a pain to self-study for, though, and the other three are widely viewed as “fluff” APs, with the possible exception of psych. Unless you are aiming for state aP scholar, I would reccomend your current class schedule+macro, micro, and psych, if you are heading in that direction.

Since you are taking so many APs, I am assuming that you will be applying to the top colleges. If I were you, I would just drop Environmental Science and Human Geography (and perhaps Psychology too) because the top colleges generally don’t offer credit for those exams. Junior year is important, but you don’t want to overwork. Focus on your 5 school APs and study for APUSH when you have time. “Fluff” APs are still APs, so you still need to put some time into them. If you are really aiming for State AP Scholar, knock yourself out, but I don’t see the point of the award as you will have been admitted to college by the time you receive it (winners are usually seniors who graduated I would think).

Good luck with this schedule! I’m sure that if you apply yourself, you can definitely manage it. I don’t know about all those self studies though… I thought APUSH was pretty time consuming, but then again I’m not the typical CCer

I had a very similar schedule to yours junior year (substitute in BC for AB calc, Spanish III for Latin III, and APUSH for world). It was doable, but difficult. Kind of fun, in a way. I never had to stay up past 10:30 doing homework, and I did it all, but my peers who had similar (if not easier) schedules and similar (if not worse) grades were pulling allnighters, breaking out the Starbucks or mDew in the morning, and taking days off at a time to catch up (or some just abandoned trying alltogether and were content with Cs and Ds).

Now, what I didn’t do is self-study APs. That clearly makes things harder. Could you do it? Yes. Do you want to do it? I don’t know. Is it worth it? I don’t think so. First, many of the APs you are considering self-study are the “joke” APs. And I’d focus on that heavy plate of classes you have in school and do your work in those and get good grades. If you find that, 3/4 of the way through the first semester (when things generally start picking up in the winter months), that you are easily pulling straight As and have a lot of free time, add in one or two self-study APs. Macro/micro would be pretty good (sort of a joke, but also really quick to study for as not too much material is covered). Psych might be as well (didn’t take it, so wouldn’t know much about it). Any math will be a difficult self-study (stats would be easiest, obviously, though). USH would be tough to effectively self-study. Why not just take it next year?

What I don’t get is, if you did all these self-studies, what would you take senior year? Removing the fluff APs, you wouldn’t be left with much to take. So focus on school, see where that gets you, and maybe consider later on adding an AP self-study if you want. But, with that school schedule, you definitely do not have to.
