Junior Year Schedule -- Yay or Nay?

So, the end of sophomore year is nearing the horizon and course sheets are going to be handed to us within a few short weeks. I’ve begun considering my Junior schedule and I think I have it down, but I’d love some input from people with experience in these classes. Or just comment, any response is fine. I do want my schedule to be pretty rigorous, but I also need to work on my GPA as I acted stupid my freshman year and managed to ruin it, so I need to make sure that I can make straight As (or at least an A for my end of year averages.)

The courses I’m considering are as follows:

AP English III (Lang and Comp)
Pre AP (Honors) Precalculus
AP Statistics (kiiinda reconsidering, looking for alternative options with this one but this one might just end up sticking)
AP Bio II
AP Physics I
AP US History
And my final course is up in the air right now. I might use one of my periods to work at the Student Tech Desk we have here (volunteer hours at school, tech credits, and tech/workplace experience yay), but I may also take Anatomy and Physiology (however it isn’t Honors, so I’m reconsidering.) I might also take BIM ATC which is Honors, where at the end of the year we get certified in Excel, Word, Publisher, etc.

Any thoughts?

First, i like your profile picture lol.
Taking two AP sciences along with AP in the other courses is going to be hard imo, but it really depends on what you are used to and what classes youve taken in your sophomore year. If youve taken 2-3 AP courses this years and done well, then i think you will be ok. But it really depends on what ur used to, what u can personally handle, and ur ECs/other activities.

I would drop AP stats and take an easy AP, like psych or environmental science. Doubling on math would be hard, especially with other APs.

@neonerudite Haha, thank you!! Byun Baekhyun is my ultimate bias, with Do Kyungsoo being a pretty close 2nd. I feel like I’m pretty well prepared, but I’ll be able to change my schedule as I see fit for the entirety of the first grading period if a class is too much for me to handle.

@nyuhopeful44 I’ve always heard that doubling on science is hard, but I never really hear bad about doubling math (but perhaps it’s because no one ever considers taking 2 maths in a year?). My school doesn’t have AP Psych but we do have AP Environmental systems, however, won’t tripling on Science APs be even more difficult? I don’t think my counselor would be too keen on letting me do that, but I’ll consider it and also look into other options for AP!

I think that two math classes is one of the easier doubles, actually – for humanities, the sheer amount of reading/writing is a lot, and science classes have labs, but math is just math – I wouldn’t treat it differently than just adding another academic class.

I agree with @pseudoprimal . If math comes easily to you, this could work because it won’t eat into your time the way a class that requires a lot of reading and writing would. I’d advise that you make sure that ALL of these play to your strengths, though, because if you have even one or two in there that require a lot of work/effort to just get a B, you may find that you don’t have the time to do well in the ones that should be a cinch. Definitely plan on taking the AP exams to show that you mastered the material.

tao is my ult XD yixing is my bias in exo tho haha. But in comparison to all the APs, AP Stat is considered pretty easy, even for non math people- its one of the easiest at my school anyways. I think you should stick with AP Stat; what classes are u taking this year?

2 AP sciences is difficult. I would drop one. Much easier to do 2 maths. Are you planning to take Calculus senior year?

You’re missing a foreign language (you should have up to level 4 or AP if you’re aiming for highly selective universities, and up to 3 if you’re aiming for your flagship or similar selectivity).

AP English III (Lang and Comp)
Pre AP (Honors) Precalculus

AP Statistics => only take if you love math and don’t mind taking “real” statistics in college (when it’ll be useful for your resume and future work, regardless of what you end up doing); for admission purpose, it’s a wash, since it’s one of the AP lites and would only count as rigor if you were unable to take any other math. In short, I’d advise switching it out and taking your Foreign language 3 or 4 then.

AP Bio II
AP Physics I
==> taking those two is going to be tough, especially with AP Lang and Precalc Honors, but if you’ve been mastering the content in your Honors Bio class and are good at math, Physics should be okay.

AP US History => OK.

For your final period, either Spanish (if you don’t switch it with Stats) ro Student Help Desk (great experience and very useful toward getting work study hours at your college’s ITS helpdesk, which pays well AND opens many professional opportunities.)
