Junior Year Schedule

I've been browsing College Confidential for about a month now and finally decided to create and account and post. I'm an incoming high school junior and was wondering about my schedule for the upcoming year. I have a good idea, but I was wondering how rigorous my schedule is going to be. Is it possible or reasonable maintain A's while also having a few extracurricular activities and getting some sleep. I'm just concerned because I had problems getting enough sleep last year, which ultimately made maintaining my grades a bit difficult.

My school is on a block schedule, where a year long class is completed in a semester.

Semester 1:
Orchestra
Calculus III
AP US History
Advanced Chemistry

Semester 2:
Orchestra
Spanish 4 (after having self-studied Spanish 2 and 3)
AP Language
AP Chemistry

Extracurriculars include violin lessons (1hr/week), tutoring (2hr/week), volunteering (2hr/week), Link Crew, treasurer of Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Club, and possibly some others.

I also plan to study for the ACT as well as a few SAT subject tests.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

I think that’s a really good schedule, very hard but it’s also impressive, what were your classes last year that made you lose sleep? It seems manageable, you might have to give up a lot of free time but if your taking those classes you should be able to handle them. Also does Orchestra take up time in the morning or afterschool? I know Marching Band at my school would stay for 2 hours after school and Orchestra would have a 0 Period, that would be pretty tough to work out.

Last year my schedule was had a zero hour orchestra. I’m not sure if there will be one this year with a new teacher, but it did start at 6:30 am. There are also some after school and lunch rehearsals occasionally. Calculus AB and BC last year were difficult with a teach who was tough on grading and expected students to be in to practice and complete long projects after school everyday (same teacher that I will have for Calculus III). In addition I doubled up to independently study Spanish 2 and 3 during one period. Pre-AP World Comp. and Lit was also difficult.

For orchestra this year, I plan on auditioning for orchestras such as All State, and other selective ones. I also want to work on a science fair project if time allows?
