Just a few questions about applying from New Zealand

Hey CC Cats!

I’m a student from New Zealand hoping to apply to the UC universities (specifically UC Berkeley or UC Los Angeles). We don’t calculate GPA here since most of our schools used our national curriculum called NCEA. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about how NCEA results were evaluated by U.S. universities, i.e. is there some way to estimate GPA from NCEA results?

Also, I’m a bit of a rookie when it comes to the application process so I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether U.S. universities take into account final year examination results? Our primary exam results aren’t released until mid-January, and we have a second set of “scholarship exams” for which the results aren’t released until mid-February. Since applications close around the end of November my first thought would be no.

Thanks

When filling out the Common App, you can just select GPA as “non applicable” meaning your school doesn’t calculate GPA. I don’t know anything about NCEA specifically, but being an international student myself I know that universities look at international testing scores and also at your SAT/ACT scores.
Whatever university you apply to will evaluate you based on what you submit. If you don’t have scores yet you can’t submit them so no.
