Midterm report: 4.0 with 18 credit hours this semester
Last Semester: Made 4.0 with a 16 credit hour course load on top of working 30-40 hours a week at a restaurant.
Honors: Member of the business honors society, Phi Theta Kappa Member, served a term as vice president of the East Tennessee Region of Phi Theta Kappa. Member of Who's Who.
Activities:
Currently working with St. Jude's Hospital writing articles that are probably going to be published on the St. Jude's website with my name in the publication. The articles I am writing are about the treatments of cancer and genomic related stuff. My application essay clearly states that I am interested in genetic research because it fascinates me. I think this part of my essay is well reflected by what I am actually doing. There probably is not many junior college students working with St. Jude's from what I can gather so I hope this makes me stand out. I
Served as a senator at TISL (Tennessee Intercollegiate Student Legislature) and sponsored a bill that went to the actual State Legislature.
I have won two study abroad scholarships. One I used to go to Italy and Greece. The second scholarship I won, I am using to pay for a trip to the Galapagos Islands to study Genetics for one month of this summer.
I have only been playing piano for a little over 3 years but I have already performed pieces like Chopin's Nocturne in C# minor in mini recitals.
Downsides to my application: Dropped out of highschool and obtained a GED.
Upsides: Varied curriculum, A's in my music classes, foreign language classes and 4.0 in maths and sciences. I have carried a 4.0 since I changed my major from business to chemistry. I am applying to the school of arts and science for a biology major. I sent my application to transfer this fall. Also, of the 5 people I know who have applied to Vanderbilt from my school, all of them were accepted. My GPA, courseload, and extracurriculars are just as good as their's from what I understand.
