Just another student in a letter of rec bind

The title says a lot. I've asked my Junior IB English/Senior IB History teacher for one letter of recommendation, but I'm unsure what to do for the second (math/science) one. My first instinct would be to ask my Senior IB Bio teacher, but I'm a bit worried that he won't have known me well enough by October (the semester started in August) to write a good letter for the early round. The other option is my Freshman Bio/Junior Theory of Knowledge teacher who knows me well, and I know would write a good letter. The trouble, of course, is that he hasn't taught me in an upperclassman science course.

How should I choose? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Ask each of the teachers if they think that they can write you a good letter of recommendation. If they say No, ask them for suggestions given your situation. They do this every year, and will have good ideas for you.

How about a math teacher?

The teacher from freshman year isn’t a ideal option. the colleges want to see specific academic abilities, growth, (hopefully) progress. While the freshman teacher is now teaching you Theory of Knowledge, that doesn’t sound academic enough. (I don’t know if it is, obviously) Your senior Bio teacher would probably be better choice, just b/c it’s an academic area. But still…it’s really all about which teacher can write a good rec. anyway. Who is a better writer? Who is more upbeat? That’s what you want.
