Congrats to your Ds too! We live about 4 hours from Boston and you'd better believe we will be in the audience for both shows. Besides, it gives us an excuse for 2 weekends in Boston.

lexasmomkbj-
Congrats to your D! I think we must all help our kids get "well rounded" while still in high school. My older D has a beautiful voice, but it's somewhat untrained, as she spent lots of time in dance and doing plays and did not always take voice.(she always had the best voice of local kids, but we all know how it works when getting into the big MT world!) It is her "weak" point, and if i had it to do again, I would make sure she was taking voice. By your daughter taking this role, she is doing exactly what I wished I had advised my D to do- find your weakest area and strengthen it. Congrats to her!

lexasmomkbj -

Congrats to your D. Is she playing Catherine? My son was Charlie in The Foreigner this past fall - a great acting challenge for him which he just loved. We also saw the show in NYC with Matthew Broderick in December - it was hilarious! Your D will have a lot of fun with the role.

Thanks for all the congrats!

Yes, my d is playing Catherine and she is so excited to have a role that does not involve singing (even though she loves to sing). I guess this will probably be the last role she has here in town so it will be bittersweet for me. I know I will miss seeing her on the stage and she will be going to school so far away that I won't be able to attend everything there. Time seems to be flying by so quickly! Another quick brag...my d found out yesterday that she was accepted to the Honors program at OCU (she was already accepted for MT). I hope that as the audition season winds down that everyone has good news to share. Keep the brags coming. It sounds like there are so many very talented kids out there. We are all proud of you!

I always feel slightly apologetic for posting on this forum, since my daughter is an MT-lover who is not going to pursue an MT degree. But I feel like I can relate best to the experiences here. *End of apology/rationalization :D *

My daughter just finished with one play at a community theatre...and I received a call from her from school this morning, telling me that she got cast as the lead in her school's first ever musical. We really thought she wouldn't get cast, because we assumed preference would be given to the seniors (which would have been understandable...new school, first graduating class, first musical). She's thrilled beyond words (a remarkable occurence for my daughter); I'm not sure I will know how to handle having everyone home at night since her rehearsals are right after school. Does this mean I actually have to cook dinners again?

mama02girlz: I just now saw your post about Grease, and it's kind of funny how similar it is to what happened in my family! My old school's musical was for kids in grade 7-12. THe year we did Grease they actually let the hired director do the casting, and she really fought to avoid any of the traditional school politics. I was in grade 10 and my sister in grade 8, and normally leads go to those in 11 or 12. I was cast as Sandy and my sister as Patty. Even though she didn't get to sing (and she has a great voice) it was so much fun - especially since the two characters fight over Danny.

Anyway, that's pretty neat that something similar happened in your fam. Congrats to the girls, it's a fun show. :)

Hi all!

I just got back from the preliminary round of competition of regionals of the Canadian Improv Games. For those that don't know what the CIG is, it is an AMAZING organization of "loving competition" for high schoolers across the country, with regional tournaments and a national tournament in April. For more info, go to www.improv.ca

ANYWHO as of tonight we're first in the city going into regional finals on Saturday. This is a young, new team which hasn't practiced as much as usual, so it's a phenomenal result for us. To make it sweeter, we're ahead of our biggest rivals who we haven't beat in years.

I'm SO psyched!

Guess I never understood the reason for this thread until now. When you have good news to share no one who hasn't been down this path really understands. So here goes, SETC undergrad auditions this weekend. My d auditioned for 55 schools with one audition...250 students in all. She got "call backs" from 36 schools. Only means that they are interested in having her apply. (Some schools call back over 50 students.) Exciting though to get called back by Boston Conservatory...who called back 20. Gives her confidence to at least go out there and compete for a spot in the top programs. Thanks for "listening"...now I won't drive my friends crazy!!

ilbamom-That's great! Is your daughter a senior now, or a junior? What exactly is SETC?

september - How did you make out this past weekend at the CIG's?

SETC...Southeastern Theater Conference. She's a junior.

marissal-Wow-just more proof that wherever you are in life there is someone who has been there, done that. I hope everything for us goes as well as it did for you. The director cast a "Danny" that has no theatre experience whatsoever, and he is wonderful. He is also an old boyfriend of my daughters, but luckily they are still great friends!
September-How did the games end up? Let us all know.
ilbamom- Sounds like she's well on her way. I envy all you parents who are so ahead of the game. Congrats to your daughter...next year she'll no doubt be one of the lucky ones to be choosing which top school to attend. Can't wait for next year when you will be telling all of us "old folks" about your experiences!

We made it to Nationals! Our play wasn't as strong as Wednesday, so we ended up coming in 2nd, but the top three teams make it to Nationals, so we can go out and prove ourselves once again.

I was SO worried that Saturday's finals would be my last night of play ever, but I have at least one more!

september: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Good luck in the Nationals! Keep us updated!

I guess I'm going to plunge in and share my S's story. He is very talented and is finishing Tisch's Playwrights conservatory program in 3 years! He has been so successful and for this we have been very thankful. Although S is a directing major, he has had the leads in a number of " gap musicals" and also just completed the lead in the main stage show History of Tears. It was directed by Mike Philipou a professional director, and had music by Michael Cerveris( from Tommy, and Assasin fame) It was an amazing show and from what I've been told an amazing experience for the cast. Everyone is waiting with bated breath to see if goes anywhere. Well it just goes to show that even if you are not a cap 21 student you can suceed in Musical Theater at Tisch. Oh one more teeny brag, He also had one of his plays produced in the NYU Hot Ink festival. The first Undergrad to ever have been included in the festival. We feel very good about the time spent at NYU and the connection he has made. Grauation is coming up fast and aside from a summer gig, He willbe starting anew in NYC in the fall. Well let's keep our fingers crossed!

Camge, Congratulations to you and your son. It's such a scary business that it's great when you see someone flourishing. I'll be sure to ask my son, Playwrights freshman, if he saw History of Tears. Being a musical theater person, he'll be thrilled to know that it's possible to keep up those musical skills and interests. Thanks for sharing this brag.
