just got into a college i know nothing about.. help

" But I don't think that the size and location would play a huge role in my happinesss. As long as the school isn't too far from home."

well, gee, seems location is indeed important...at least be honest with yourself

I was offended by the OP because his posts came across as, well, gee, I am into prestige and name and how selective the school is, because that equals education to me, but it doesn't matter if the classes are what I need, or the majors, or the dorms, or the area, or the size....when you pick a school based on selectivity or how it looks to others, very good chance you will be unhappy because you overlooked how you will live day to day, week to week, month to month, year to year

class time is maybe 5 hours a day, max...that leaves hours and hours of time to fill, not all of it will be sutdying, so you better look at more than % accepted

citygirlsmom: yes i am going to look beyond statistics, of course. it would be very dumb to ONLY look at % accepted and education. i agree with what your saying and I don't understand why you are not processing what i am trying to say. don't be offended i'm not some snob that is looking only for a good name and supposed "good education". i am not like that. i already know that Dickinson is small, small classes, has major i want, blahblah.. what i don't know is how prestigous it is and that is ultimetly my question here.

You are asking the wrong questions. This is clearly not a forum where people are hung up on "prestige"--whatever the heck that is. No, it's not Harvard, Yale or Princeton. Now ask questions that matter--how happy are the students? What sort of study ethic is there? What are extracurricular opportunities? Is the school environmentally and/or globally aware and how is that evidenced on campus? Are the students academically challenged?

If you were smart enough to get into Dickinson, pick the word you really mean--NOT prestige.

You ask how hard it is to get into. How can anyone answer that beyond the selectivity statistics? There's nothing to go on besides admissions rates, SAT/ACT medians, class rank distribution, GPA, yield. Anything else is simply anectodal, and anyone else's anecdotes are no more valid than your own.

To answer the questions you're asking about what kind of kid goes there, you really should visit. In fact, I would discourage any kid from attending (not applying to) a school they've never visited. There are so many variables that only you can weigh.

It most definitely does play a big role.
