Just How Important Is Being a National Merit Scholar?

Would a 206 in New Jersey get commended?

A 206 anywhere would get commended, probably. I think last year's cut-off was 202. National merit commended has a cut-off that is the same for all states, unlike semifinalist.

My daughter is a sophomore and has a PSAT score of 186. What is the percentile for this?

It should say on her score report. It sounds like it would be around 90 % to me, but I'm really not sure. With prep or even naturally, she could get it to commended level easily and even semifinalist.

Not much money in the deisgnation? Try @$120,000 in tuition at Fordham based on current tuition charges.

Spartacus-- 186 as a soph should be in the low 90's. As s'vrone said, the percentile should be on the report, and it should be relative to her class year...low 90's for Sophomores taking the test, not relative to the juniors.

The $120,000. is coming from Fordham.....not NMS. It is all good.

And why is Fordham giving the money? NMSF
All good.
