Just HOW much does it matter?

<p>My friend with a 1340/1600 SAT is bent on applying to Stanford as EA. I told him go for it, but I also said he should probably focus on raising that score: </p>

<p>He told me "Where have you been? Colleges don't really care much about your SAT score anymore... I mean, cmon' its just a stupid 4 hour test, how much can that really matter?" </p>

<p>He has a good GPA, but no outstanding EC's- I'm worried applying EA to Stanford for him would blow his chances of applying EA at a more realistic school.</p>

<p>But what he said also concerns me: Just how important are they? Can he stand any chance with that score at Stanford?</p>

<p>IS your friend a URM? It isn't one dimensional, adcoms accept students based on a holistic approach- especially at stanford. If he is Asian or white, and has no EC to make up for his below average SAT, then he should really consider applying to a less selective school</p>
