Oh, lol
10 char.

The NSpire CAS is the newest model, but I did say newer. Plus, I was trying to illustrate that the 89 has the statistical capacity needed for the exam (a concept alluded to in the excerpt that you posted).

I don’t really understand why they feel the need to store notes. It’s not exactly a hard course

getting to the statistical capability in the TI-89 is so complicated. That’s why I rely on the TI-84. It’s so convenient.

“Hey look, a Stats button” (Press.) “Yay, all the calculation and tests on one little button.”

^Agree. The conditions on every tests are certainly not that hard to remember, anyone can differentiate an observation and an experiment, and what else is there that we need to know for the exam?

My 2 cents:

The CB knows very well what the capabilities of a TI-89 are. Knowing this, they write the test so that notes/formulas stored in a calculator will not help a person with no knowledge of the subject matter pass the test. While I haven’t taken AP Stats, I am taking Calculus BC, which has changed a lot since the development of graphing calculators. In the 1960s and 1970s, the BC exams were really mechanical and just required a lot of computation. Now, however, there is more theory involved because of the power of these new graphing calculators.

The point is this: College Board writes the AP Stats/Calculus exam so that the student needs to be able to apply whatever he/she has learned and/or stored to the questions. This way, having notes in a calculator does not guarantee a 3, 4, or 5.

^exactlyyy. hence, learning tool.

& no one said it was a hard course. it’s just helpful if you have backup formulas/hints right there, which were not difficult to put in, in the first place.

The hints I don’t need to question, but the backup formulas? Why? You’re given an equation sheet and if that doesn’t help, your TI-89 can pretty much do every single statistics tests.

because i have been doing that for every chapter since september, for tests & because it helped me learn.

okay, cool! thanks for those who answered my question! going to go study now, ugh.

The question is: Would you do worse if you didn’t put any information in your calculator? If so, then it’s cheating

Never knew about the notefolio, thanks.

And Jerry, I disagree. The TI-89 is not very difficult to learn to use, you just have to learn how to use it (just like any other device). Things like fraction answers, pretty print, ability to solve for variables, and a clearer screen make it more convenient than the 84 IMO.

^^TI-89 is not difficult to use, but it’s an inconvenience to get to the statistical capabilities. Besides, I use the TI-89 specifically for calculus since the TI-89 is more convenient to use for that mathematics than the TI-84.
