Just need a neutral party to weigh in on these colleges I've been admitted to

These are the list of colleges I’ve been admitted to so far:
Texas A&M
Cal Poly SLO
Purdue
UC Riverside

I’m honestly leaning toward Cal Poly right now because of cost and proximity to my family. It has a decent reputation within CA but I’m concerned about the fact that it’s still a Cal State.
I’ve gotten money from all of them except Purdue
(If any alumni could share their stories, that would be great too)

There is no shame in letting cost be king. Have you visited all of these?

If you can swing the money then Purdue. Big Ten schools are great and the towns all have a lot of spirit. I think they are quite a special group of schools.

What major?

Purdue is considered a Public Ivy, according to Public Ivies (2001). SLO is still just as prestigious if you’re going into engineering, so that fact that it’s a state school shouldn’t dissuade you from going. A&M and Riverside vary widely in prestige across different national scales. Based on what you’ve expressed, I think SLO is your best choice, even if you’re not going into engineering. Good luck!

Thank you! I am going into engineering, and based on all the costs I think slo might be my best bet.

Hi! It will be difficult for me to visit A&M and Purdue because it’s not in CA. However I’m visiting SLO and Rocersode in the next couple of weeks. I am entering as an electrical engineering major.

Net price at each school after scholarships and financial aid (if any)?

How much in the way of loans would you need at each school?

CPSLO has a very good reputation for engineering.

SLO is a great engineering school. More bang for your buck.

Frankly, yes, go to the cheapest of Cal Poly, A&M, and PU.

Frankly, for engineering, I don’t think there is much difference between PU, A&M, and CalPoly SLO, so just go to the cheapest of those 3.

cal poly slo. If the price difference was minimal and you had visited and loved one of the others, it would be different.

Cal Poly Slo is at least as good as Purdue, is as well recognized within its region, and has a better location. Since it’s also cheaper… sounds like a no brainer if you’re a Stem kid.

Both my husband and I graduated from Cal Poly SLO in engineering. I would consider their engineering program to be up there with any of the UC’s but it is a different type of curriculum. For the cost, you can’t beat the education you will receive at CP. It is a great little town and a beautiful area, but be sure to visit as it does not appeal to everyone!

Cal Poly-SLO might not have the national name recognition that Purdue has, but it is very highly regarded in STEM fields, and it has become highly competitive in recent years. I would say that the location alone should seal the deal.

Slo because it has an amazing engineering program. It’s making me think twice about UCLA and UCSD with regents for computer science.
