Hi, just did a college visit with my son, a junior from New Jersey. Although the new convocation center was slick -- and attached to the new basketball stadium where the team was practicing (which my son LOVED) -- I felt it was not a good presentation overall compared to the other colleges. The admissions presentation was fine, very factual (not a lot of feeling) -- but then we went on the tour with a not-well spoken student in a black t-shirt, baggy pants and flip flops. He mumbled, didn't speak with good English, and didn't know much about the school. (Didn't they provide these kids with a script???) The campus was under so much construction, you couldn't hear him sometimes, and the admissions counselor who went along with us didn't jump in to say a word to clarify things. Although the campus was sprawlingl, there was no rhyme or reason to the tour, and you never got a sense of how everything fit or worked together. I guess you could say lots of construction was a good thing for a college you're attending in 2 years, but it seemed a noisy, not scholastic place. Just my 2 cents.

Good school if you like basketball but if you want to go for academics, that wouldn't be my first choice.

Depends on the programs. ODU is a great school for science and technology programs, the liberal arts are decent. It is definitely an up and coming university though.
