Just wondering...

Does our "high school type" really matter?

Someone posted their high school type on this thread:
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/518762-need-help-choosing-between-ed-regular-applying.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/518762-need-help-choosing-between-ed-regular-applying.html</a>
and I'm just wondering how that plays into effect.

My public high school, a definite competitive school in Socal, sends students to Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, etc. Basically the Ivies and many of the UC's.

So does that mean it would hurt my chance of trying to get into UPenn?
I don't really hear of people applying to UPenn at my school though; it seems like they all apply to every Ivy but this one.

My son graduated from a very low performing school in Norcal and was admitted to Penn. There was a small segment of the school that were high achievers and some of these kids were admitted to very prestigious schools, including two Ivy Leaguers and Berkley.

It seems that the admission decision depends a lot on a combination of how you did in relationship to the kids at your particular school and overall with kids across the country (SAT scores).

Your schoolmate's short-sightedness is your gain.
