Hey could you guys help me understand what Kappa Sigma is all about... I heard they got their house taken away, but have it back now? How do they rank in terms of prestige/top fraternities? Is it even considered a top 5-6 fraternity at Vanderbilt? What are the guys like? Any info helps!

Cheers

First off, as much as college confidential frequenters love to categorize things into neatly packed rankings, unfortunetly, there is no US News ranking fraternities, each one has something to offer. Kappa Sig is a fun group of guys, they like to party hard, and they are not that southern. They were the NU Society for a few years after an incident/# of incidents, which resulted in their house getting taken away and being kicked off campus, now they are back under the Kappa Sigma charter.

so are they back in their original house? are they on any sort of probation for their actions?

I think the story is something like this…

Years ago Sigma Nu got kicked off campus. Those guys became NU Society which was an off campus house up until last year. A completely different group of guys rechartered Sigma Nu, and they are at the SN house now. NU Society is on campus as Kappa Sig. So Kappa sig and sigma nu are not related at all

so they have a house again? also, how well are they thought of on campus?

Yes they have a house on campus. They are thought of as pretty highly. This was only their first year back on campus but NU society was regarded highly…especially their Nuesdays. Mainly northern guys… really laid back…fun to party with…overall fun/nice guys

good to hear…anyone else?

Wasn’t Kappa Sigma referred to as Kappa Sketch at one point?

whoa really? anyone other valuable insight?

no I have never heard it referred to as kappa sketch, it is not sketchy, and it is only been at Vanderbilt for like a year, so your usage of the phrase “at one point” leads me to believe you have no idea what you’re talking about.

its the same group of guys who were “nu society” and they have been around for more than one year. i miss the off campus house- a lot more fun esp cause they were allowed to have hard liquor and kegs

so what is their on campus house like? are they not allowed to have alcohol inside the house??

houses on campus aren’t allowed to have hard liquor at their parties. doesnt mean you won’t see it though. they are allowed to have cans of beer.

so is kappa sigma on any sort of probation? do they face the same alcohol rules that every other house deals with?

kappa sig functions like any other house on campus. a lot of houses go on probation throughout the year…

i have no idea if they are on probation right now. i don’t think so but who knows. houses are continually going on and off probation all the time. and in increasing numbers over the pst few years(especilly last)

This will be Kappa Sigs second year on campus, right, or is it their third?

2nd year on campus. but it’s the same group of guys who were nu society and lived off campus…which i thought was more fun

so where would you place kappa sig in the ranks of elite fraternities?

it is not widely viewed as an “elite” fraternity.
